Writing when...

I seldom drink anymore, can't recall the last time I was tipsy, but might have tried it tipsy in the past. Can't recall ever doing it drunk- I think my brain might get too foggy.

Like @sirhugs I rarely drink anymore. Last time I drank enough to feel it was last Christmas at a party and before that probably over a year. The first few years of my writing I drank a fair amount and would write with a decent buzz. The next day I'd have to do some editing for misspelled words and grammar issues, but for the most part what I wrote came out fine, no better or worse than when sober.

I personally can't write while drunk or high.

I haven't figured out the exact science of it, but as far as I can tell, one of the biggest determining factors when it comes to whether or not I'm feeling creative is Boredom.

When I'm bored and my mind isn't occupied, I tend to engage in some sort of creative process whether it be writing stories, making music, or any other random creative hobby I might dabble in.

But when I get drunk, I can just sit around watch silly YouTube videos for hours, or jam out to my favorite albums without getting bored. So my mind is never empty enough for my imagination to operate.

Although, I've heard some people are extremely creative while drunk or high, so it's obviously not the same for everyone.

I occasionally get buzzed and write things. I feel like it makes the story flow a bit more. Then I go back and see I need to add more things, or some things don't make sense :ROFLMAO:

I drink with meals, but not really enough for it to affect me. I can't remember a time I've ever tried to write buzzed.

I'd give it a try now, for science, but it's eight in the morning.

Never tried writing after a few drinks, but then my typing can be wonky at the best of times, so I don't think having a few would help!

I find that a few drinks will help my ideas flow better, but too many, and everything shuts down.

Allegedly, Hemingway instructed writers to "Write drunk; edit sober."

I can't write when drunk. It all comes out as crap, and often isn't even readable.
As for pot, I've written buzzed and I've written sober. It seems to be the same for me.

Nope. I do like to drink, but I don't drink often, it takes too many to feel anything, and there's more important things I need money for.

Sometimes, when I'm in a particular mood, I'll have a glass of something. It's more of a wintertime activity, when the fireplace is lit and the cats are willing to sit on my feet and lap while I type. In the summer it's too dang hot for alcohol to be any fun. I just fall asleep.
