The "I don't want to talk about AI" thread, that's partially but not exclusively about cats

Simple premise: whenever you get fed up of AI-related threads and discussions, post something entirely unrelated in this thread and bump it to the top.

One of my cats loves sitting in the shower to drink water. But she doesn't drink water from the floor or the walls, or even from the tap. No, I have to fill a cup water and pour it out so she can slurp at it.

The central heating in my house has started switching on. That's about two months earlier than it does most years.

My wife bought me quite a nice whiskey, from Wales. I'd had Welsh whiskeys before, but I didn't like them, so this was a very pleasant surprise.

What is your preferred writing device?
I'm ruling out clay tablets as impractical

I am always looking for the perfect pencil, or the ideal pen. I really enjoy a good fountain pen.
I once used an electric typewriter, a Brother. I miss it.
I recently picked up an old clunker of an electric typewriter at the thrift store for 25 bucks. Weighs a ton.
I should have saved the 25 bucks

I am currently eying a manual typewriter on Amazon for about 150 after taxes.
My brain has gotten lazy using a computer.

Did you know you can exclude the AI results from a google search? They didn't make it super easy, but if you go to your browser settings and find the search engine control (and the manage search engines section, then 'add search engine'), you should get a dialog box with three fields. You can assign a name in the top box, enter google.com in the middle box, and input '{google:baseURL}/search?udm=14&q=%s' for the field labeled 'URL with %s in place of query'. Then you make that new option your default, and you no longer have to see the bot summary before getting the actual results.

Finally got a new candle. I write better when I've got a little fire going. It's been weeks since the last one ran down.

My favorite part of a new candle is trying to break the old pieces of wax out and using up the leftovers. It's a delicate art form, to not overwhelm the new wick.

I'm driving to Maine Friday morning to buy 30 long boxes of comics.

The pictures don't show a lot but can't really go wrong for the price and it'll be a nice ride.

Downside is I'm buying these from an older woman and I couldn't find anyone to take the ride with me so I'm moving all these myself and she's on the third floor.

Mine will sometimes jump up on the bathroom sink and beg me to turn the water on so she can drink from that.

Sometimes I think with cats it's a game to see what the most ridiculous thing is they can persuade us to do. But right now she's sitting on my lap purring and that's pretty nice.

I just found out there’s Welsh whiskey.

I have started walking with a cane and it lets me walk a little further than I could without it. As a nice touch, I am using my father's cane; he passed away this summer.
Sorry for your loss, but a wonderful way to remember him and continue to connect. My father still uses his grandfather's binoculars, there have been so many advances in optics and coatings over the years that even relatively cheap modern binos would be "better" but it maintains that connection to so many of his favorite memories.
