Florida Surgeon General Joseph Ladapo said Wednesday that the state will work to eliminate all vaccine mandates.

“All of them. All of them,” he said during a news conference as the crowd stood and erupted in applause. “Every last one of them is wrong and drips with disdain and slavery." He said the Florida Department of Health will work in partnership with the governor.

He said forcing vaccine mandates is “wrong” and “immoral.”

"Who am I as a government or anyone else, who am I as a man standing here now, to tell you what you should put in your body? Lapado said. "Who am I to tell you what your child should put in [their] body? I don’t have that right.”

he is advocating his duty as surgeon general to protect the health of the population, placing the onus on individuals who may be vaccine-deniers/hesitant, may lack health coverage to pay for the shots, or may be unaware of the dangers these illnesses present to their families. Florida requires current vaccinations for students going to public school. Those requirements are outlined on the Florida Health website.

I think the issue is the mandatory part, not the vaccines.

Rational parents will vax their kids with the usual stuff. Irrational parents won't. Irrational actors will scream about it because they have nothing better to do than be Karens.

The kids will be where the balance weighs out. If epidemics start to occur, then we know to start mandating vaccinations again. If they don't, then we don't need to and we can leave it up to parents to decide.
