Hi Lit,

Is the minimum word requirement for submitting a poem the same as a regular story (that is at least 750 words)?

Thanks,
Blessed Pearl

Hi and welcome to the forum. I'm not sure what the minimum word requirement is for a poem submission but I've submitted poems that are far, far less than 750. There are haiku submissions that are only 17 syllables so you should be fine with anything less than 750.

I don't think there's anything in the FAQs about poem length. I scanned them recently and don't recall seeing anything about word length. I do think if you're at 750 or higher, even if you intend it as a poem, it has to be submitted as a story.

If anyone here knows about minimum length for poetry submissions tell us!

Oh Blessed Pearl (lovely name btw), you might want to ask this on the Editors' Forum. 🌹

Can we post song lyrics as poetry if we are songwriters? I do a lot of songwriting though I started in poetry, but I only do the writing. I’d like to be able to share it but don’t see anything explicitly stating that it is permissible.

Welcome to the poetry forum and sure you can post your song lyrics as poems. Many others have done so over the years.

If you want to publish them as poems on Literotica just submit your lyrics as a poem, following the standard submissions process. 🙂

No problem with song lyrics. You can also record an audio (like I did) and get it posted under "Audio"

Are we allowed to post AI generated .mp3 versions of our songs, tagged as such? I’m not an instrumentalist (trust me, for the good of the planet) and prefer to share something polished as opposed to my low-quality vox-only tracks, even if it’s not 100% exact (and can never stack up to the orig, just at varying degrees). I live in a small area and haven’t had any luck finding musicians to collab with, I’m a songwriter before anything else and would like to share something professional sounding. If someone would like to collaborate remotely then I’d share my originals personally, but I don’t want to submit anything publicly that might be against content rules.

I’m having a tough time navigating around here but I just need to dedicate some time to exploring and getting used to it I think. Thanks again. :)

Probably not since AI generated stories/poems are not allowed. My brother put together the music for my rap and I did the vocals

I'm not sure about AI-generated music either although it's different from stories and poems because it's music you wrote and your voice so it might be ok. There isn't anything in the Audio Publishing FAQ about it. You might want to ask about this on the Editors Forum: you're more likely to find someone who knows there. An editor may also be able to connect you with musicians who'd be willing to work with you. They tend to have more answers about these kinds of questions on that forum. 🌹

Ok sounds good I will ask there—It’s all my writing, lyrics, and as many mood/keyword/genre notes I can fit in to narrow the AI down to sound right. Sometimes it’s just not possible for the AI to pick it up, other times it’s decent enough that I feel shareable as a means to showcase my songwriting, but as for making music yes I would want to work with musicians on my actual tracks—I think every true artist knows that AI can’t compete with genuine creative expression of the human experience. So yeah, that would be wonderful to get connected with musicians but if not in person I can be gun-shy with tech and that can sometimes paralyze me from moving forward remotely. I am willing to travel to some extent I’m even willing to pay for some studio time or working together in general (not sure if I am allowed to say so?), but eh one thing at a time, let’s see to what capacity I may share my songwriting here first, and I will report back when I find out! :)
