The age old story of virgins sacrificed to vulcanos to appease the gods. When someone's 21 and still a virgin they are sacrificed. It's good for the town, if not the whole world!

Of course the virgins have their own opinions. They rather not be sacrificed. There's two things they can do. Run away, or get it on.

How would the story unfold for someone close to 21 and still a virgin, in search of preventing their own sacrifice by doing the horizontal dance?

Wouldn't work. A girl only needs to say "hey guys who wants my cherry?" And she'll get a thousand volunteers. As for guys I'm sure most parents would have a "prostitute fund" just in case it was needed to save their son. No doubt insurance companies would get in on the act.

No story is good without conflict, so why don't we introduce some? First, it doesn't need to be a woman. Second, if it is a woman, maybe she's actively being kept from sex so they have a virgin to sacrifice. She might have to battle all kinds of obstacles before she can have sex. Maybe everyone in the culture knows she will be sacrificed and doesn't want to be known for being the one to deny the gods the most beautiful virgin sacrifice.

A more plausible version would be a closed community that holds a strict belief of no sex until 21, where deviation is punished by certain and dishonorable death. Then at 21, some of them are chosen (how? who knows; maybe the elders or shamans decide, or maybe it’s random) to be sacrificed while others get it on in a massive orgy that’s part of the ceremony to appease the gods that (don’t) be.

Add external factor, like a horrified anthropologist who came to investigate the culture, and you’ve got the obvious conflict when he tries to save the young virgin he developed feelings for. (Gender-swapped version also works, as do gay/lesbian, of course).

A bit like Logan’s run but with a volcano. 21 year old virgin, ok I guess it is possible if not plausible is this gender specific or is it just that they age out at 21.

Ok let’s go with the woman only idea, your saying they are actively kept from having sex. From what age and how?

How about a hunger games spin except family who have female children are by law to keep their daughter away from sex. At 21 the legal age for sex for a woman in this community they are either married off or they enter the trials.

Just a thought if they win do they get their freedom or thrown into the volcano?

A fun take on this would be to have a series of tales about different women finding different ways to lose their virginity before their 21st, and have the final story be about a virgin who is ready to die as a sacrifice, only to be snatched from death at the last minute to become the volcano god/ess' concubine.

I was thinking that, every day they throw food to appease the gods, but once a year, the village men toss a young virgin over the lip of the volcano.

The village chief gets to choose a young woman each year... and always chooses the one he thinks is prettiest. It's a great honor for her family.

What the village doesn't know is that there's a ledge just below the lip of the volcano, hidden by the steam and smoke... and a cave that leads from the ledge to a beautiful hidden grotto with a waterfall with water warmed from the volcano. She finds herself trapped, but alive and in a beautiful location.

The chief knows the secret passage that leads up to the "sacred grotto" where he goes to fulfill his role as "god of the volcano". The young woman is often so grateful to be alive that she happily lives in the grotto and enjoys the periodic visits from the chief. Some women don't enjoy it as much, but, don't have much of a choice other than to jump off the ledge and finish her journey.

And, "jumping" off the ledge is what they all eventually do when the chief get bored of them or the new year is approaching and it's time for a new "sacrifice".

It's a proud and happy day when the chief shows his son and future chief the passage. He tells his son, "Tell anyone, especially your mother, and, not only will you never get to be chief, but, you'll go for a swim in the lava yourself! Keep your mouth shut and I will begin bringing you here to 'train you' to be chief someday... and give you a chance to practice being the volcano god"
