Any way to get beyond comment moderation?

I've posted about 20 comments, but they're still referred for moderation. Is there any process for getting them approved automatically?

How long have they been in moderation? Usually it shouldn't take more than about 24 hours.

There seems to be a threshold beyond which your comments begin to skip the queue, but it’s probably around a hundred or more.

You need to get a certain count under your belt, then they post immediately. Don't know what the count is, but it's more than twenty

Not nearly that long. I was only hoping to be accepted into the "presumed non-offensive commenter" elite.

I seem to remember it happened to me around the 200 comment mark. That was last year some time.

I see a tremendous amount of impatience and need for immediate self gratification all across the web these days.

I remember when mail order meant just that ... fill out a form by hand, mail it off with a hand written check and wait 6-8 weeks to see if something arrives, not knowing if they'd even received your order.

That could be. I also wonder if it's based on some combination of number of comments made and how long you've had an account here. My comments have posted automatically for a while now, and I only have 78 to my name. But I've also been here about five years.

It’s not a single switch for absolutely everyone, though. For my last stories I’ve seen comments post immediately accompanied by batches coming in at later time, at least some if not all anonymous.

My comments went to automatic approval after about 10, I think.

Yeah, but since mine go through immediately it’s not a very useful data point. And I have observed comments coming in so I can attest some come straight away and some don’t, so it’s not like sometimes they all come through and sometimes don’t. I think once you get to “post immediately” you’ll stay there, or has anyone been bounced back to “needs approval?”

I've seen people reply to the author's reply. At the very least, other readers will see me engaging, and might be more inclined to leave a comment of their own.

The same experience as Omenainen. I see a few comments, then suddenly get a batch of them posted on one of my stories. Sometimes my own comment is in that batch. I assume a bot scan is done for the moderator.

I could, but then I don't get the benefits (or presumed benefits) of other readers seeing that I engage.

It isn't so much about being non-offensive. It's more about off-site links or spam.

I’ve only posted 26 comments. My 26th was on your excellent Summer Lovin’ story. Mine appear immediately. No idea what I did to deserve that.

What's the likelihood they'll come back anyway, to see your comment? Unless they've asked a direct question and are hoping for an answer.

So, a day and a half and counting for several comments. None of them much more than "thanks for your comment!"
