It got way worse once they stopped enforcing sex and hate crimes (went from felonies to misdemeanors) in late 2010s. They realized they could get away with it more. It was bizarre to see black trans dude telling a homeless black maniac to stop touching his ass.
Since Trump let Adams off the hook, things are getting better. Fewer migrants and more enforcement was part of their agreement. So of course it is safer.
