About the author:

Joseph Sweeney | Author of Dangerous Injustice

Joseph B. Sweeney graduated from the United States Military Academy in 1987, and then served six years as an Airborne Ranger-qualified Infantry Officer.

After his military service he attended Vermont Law School, and upon graduation was accepted into the CIA National Security Law Honors Program. For the next 25 years he worked in the CIA Office of General Counsel, attaining the rank of Senior Intelligence Service-4. During his CIA career he served as the legal advisor to six different components within the Directorate for Operations, and spent more than a decade in the CIA's Litigation Division, as line attorney, deputy, acting chief, and chief.

Having served the country from the tip of the spear to the butt end, he has a unique perspective on national security and the practice of national security law. His deep understanding of criminal cases involving classified information, combined with decades of experience waging bureaucracy, provide him with an authoritative voice to guide readers and audiences through the byzantine world of espionage investigations and prosecutions.

oe Sweeney was the top official in the CIA and government on prosecuting national security violations. He has written a book about the Mar-a-Lago raid, which I discussed extensively at the time amid many debates about the limits of Trump’s authority over classified information. This book fully vindicates my position on the broad scope of presidential power regarding classified material at the highest levels. Anyone seeking a definitive account of what happened at Mar-a-Lago, and the legal breaches involved, will find no better source than Joe Sweeney, especially as interviewed by Robert Gouveia.

Quick question; why were there boxes of US government documents, classified or not, stacked in the shitter?

My burning question is not why, but what did Trump intend to do with boxes of classified information? Clearly from prior threads and books about him we know he didn't read classified info or classified distilled briefs feed to him on a daily basis.

Suppose you don't read them, as is well known, at your desk in the White House, nor focus on someone summarizing them for you in meetings. What on Earth would you do with them in an unsecured location where hundreds of people had access to them on a ballroom stage, in dank, unlocked janitorial closets, and a golden toilet room?

Yes, I wondered this too. But we know Dump's a grifter and will look for every and any way to either make him look important and also to make money from any situation. So i imagine he felt important having secret docs and they are also worth money in certain quarters.
