A couple of interesting things about this:

When you arrest and convict people, in very large numbers, for felonies; eventually having a felony conviction isn't going to mean anything for employment purposes because everyone and their grandmother will be a felon.

The UK is also a nation which prohibits felons from traveling to it from outside the country. I don't know if that includes UK citizens who went abroad (IF they could find a country that doesn't have the same VISA restrictions against convicted felons to go to) and are now trying to go home.

And of course it's likely that being a convicted felon will prohibit you from being in the military, including being drafted.
