Never quite understood why everyone got SO upset at her attending football games to watch her boyfriend.

Don't like her music? okay.
Don't like her politics? fine.

But she's an adult woman free to date who she wants and go where she wants and doesn't need any one else's permission. Or approval.

I'm personally not a huge fan. She's got a few catchy songs but generally I dont know the majority of her catalog. I certainly dont HATE her. Ultimately I'm just indifferent. Don't care.

Which is why I find it humorous to watch people lose their shit over her showing up at a football game like it ruined their lives or something.

My god, the AUDACITY of that woman being there to have fun and support her boyfriend. 🙄
I think celebrities are celebrities because they provoke visceral reactions in us. For those who like Swift, she says something to them about their lives and feelings, make them feel less alone, makes them feel seen.

But some people feel that way about a football team. They get some of their self-identity via that team (it’s like people posting Eagles memes 🤣). When something is ‘against’ their team, it also provokes a visceral reaction.

It’s called tribalism, and - as we see in the world today - it can lead to problems.

[Not meant to be about Millie, who I think was just goofing off]

Can't put it into words, but I'm not fond of many celebrities.

I'm mostly in the same camp, Millie. However, there are some celebrities who happen to be great people, and are worthy of respect for both their talent and intelligence.

... Our fixation on them is kinda ridiculous.

This I totally agree with. There are doubtless multiple studies about this in the mental health field.

Perfectly reasonable stance. Our fixation on them is kinda ridiculous.

I think its perfectly fine to have a favorite actor or musician or pop star or whatever. If the person and their art speaks to you, there's nothing wrong with that.

The problems stem when people start obsessing over that artists personal life; who they're dating, what their politics are, what their personal habits are, etc etc etc.

There are some artists i know a lot about, but its more about their art than their personal lives.

I think Sam Rockwell is a great actor. But I couldn't tell you if he's married, or what his wife / girlfriend's name is, or what his hobbies are or his favorite meal. And I really don't care.

I love football and rooting for my Eagles every season. But I know very little about any of the players besides their names. And that's not even the whole team just the key players. I sometimes read about something positive they've done to contribute to society and / or can become concerned if one is involved in some negative conduct.

But other than that it's just a game to me, ya know? Fun to watch, occasionally fun to engage in some good natured rivalry with fans of other teams, but ultimately nothing to obsess over.

Noo, don't like her. I hate the Chiefs. I hate her, but hated her before she became their whore in residence. OH, did I actually type that? My bad!

And I can see you years from now in a bar
Talking over a football game
With that same big, loud opinion
But nobody's listening
Washed up and ranting about the same old bitter things
Drunk and grumbling’ on about how I can’t sing
But all you are is mean 😭

🫣😉

Just in case others don’t know [and it is AH], that’s lyrics from a Taylor Swift song.

Leslie Bibb - then I only know that from White Lotus season 3.

David Gilmour (originally from the band Pink Floyd, now a solo artist) is one of my all time favorite guitarists, singers and performers.

I know his wife is named Polly, because she is his lyricist.

I recently learned he has a daughter named Romany, because she recorded a song with him on his latest album (that's a gorgeous song btw)

I know he's donated to charities and know enough about his views on the world and his history to know he's a good and kind person.

I'll probably she'd a few tears when his time comes, because of the impact his music has had on my life.

He's one of a handful of artists I actually care or really know anything about.

I may be a Cowboys fan, but I'll gladly partake in a Jerry Jones bashing competition.😡

I know us Eagles fans have a reputation. And its not entirely unwarranted, I grant that.

But while I enjoy some good natured ribbing with fans of other teams, I never understood those who wanna get into huge fights about it all.

im all for a little smack talk, but when it devolves into anger and hate, and worse, violence... no, count me out.

I say this to say... that we Eagles fans hope Jerry Jones lives forever. 😆 🤣 😂

Does having a fixation about movie / TV trivia like who has acted with whom count as a celebrity fixation, or just my normal neurodivergence?

I don't think it's symptomatic of anything in particular; I think it's fairly normal. There are aspects of life about which I have an almost obsessive desire to know worthless details and then there are other aspects of life about which I'm totally ignorant and content with that.

Yeah. That precisely. I like connections I guess.

Swift, whether she means to be or not, is seen as a role model for young women. The KC Chiefs have a history of woman abusers on their team and not caring, their coaches son who has a history of drugs and drunk driving but was on the coaching staff hit a car that was pulled off the highway while drunk and left a young girl brain damaged for life and pled innocent. Mahomes brother is an absolute lunatic arrested for waving a gun around, another player caught with a loaded UZI and of course career woman and child abuse Hill until he was traded.

That's what Swift is supporting every time she shows up at those games and wears that jersey. But we all know conviction is a thing of convenience.
Just the KC Chiefs? I'd argue that encompasses the entire NFL, the NBA, MLB or any major sport. Major sport athletes are a protected class, just like celebrities or the rich. They can get away with shit the rest of us would pay dearly for. Just look at some of the things top college athletes do and get away with.

And if Taylor is supporting the bad parts of the Chiefs by supporting her boyfriend, who is on the team, then every NFL fan is doing the same by supporting their team, because there isn't a team in the NFL that doesn't have a bad seed.

As far as Taylor goes, I'm not a fan, nor do I listen to her music, but like other genres of music I don't cotton to, as long as I don't have to listen to it I'm fine. Many must like it though from the money she drags in from sales. It's interesting that once in a while you have a celebrity that elicits a black or white reaction from people. She's one of those. The majority either love her or hate her. And both factions are VERY vocal about their choice. Come to think of it, maybe it isn't just Taylor but a sign of the times.

Jo and I have a friend who's a celebrity. We met him in NYC. (EDIT: out of habit I typed OKC) I won't recap that here. But we have a friendship with Michael Emerson and his wife Carrie Preston. We're not bosom buddies or anything like that. We exchange emails now and again. The odd text about what they're doing or we're doing. They're fantastic people. I've met others when I was PI. Personal security situations. I didn't have pleasant experiences with most of them.
