Difference between "What's new," "New posts," and "Latest activity"

What is the difference supposed to be between these three? I can see they all have different content, but they all have very recent content on threads which are not necessarily new threads. So what's the difference supposed to be?

I'm not sure if this helps at all, but "new posts" is where you can add filters. Mine is set to "threads I watch".

"Latest activity" covers reactions to posts across the forums.

"What's new" is posts across the forums.
