Punk rock, Hardcore, Oi!, Garage, Metal, Ska, Indie (and whatever else) Discussion and Anarchy thread

Awesome! Never been. Hopefully there’s good bands there and that come thru.

Two of the guys that are in the descendants came from old school salt lake bands which is cool for historical purposes. Insight was from salt lake and they toured with judge a few times and played with a lot of good old school bands. Currently, there is a pretty decent scene with bands like xforever warx, absolved, crow killer really pushing forward!

In today’s date in 1977, The Jam released their second single.

Too bad he is gone…

Today marks Johnny Thunders Birthday. He was born, John Anthony Genzale on July 15, 1952 in Queens, NY.

Another birthday boy. Same day, similar location.

Happy birthday to Marky Ramone. Born
Marc Steven Bell on on this day in 1952, Brooklyn, NYC.

Saw the Ramones several times, some with Marky some w Richie on drums. Also saw Marky Ramones Punk Rock Blitzkrieg. They played 34 songs in 1.5 hours! No talk. No bullshit. Just 1234 and the next song.

The third punk rock birthday, although this one always saddens me…

Today also makes the birthday of Ian Kevin Curtis, singer, lyricist and occasional guitarist of the post-punk band Joy Division.

He was born on this day in 1956 in Stretford, Lancashire, England.

💔💔💔

Another tough one.

Another memory birthday - the time for the late Kim Shattuk.

Kim was of the old school for sure. She pulled no punches. She was in the the Pandoras, lead vocalist, guitarist, and primary songwriter for the Muffs..

She was born on this day (July 17th) in 1963, Los Angeles, CA 💔💔💔

July 17, 1967

007 by Desmond Dekker and The Aces entered the U.K. singles chart. It would climb to number 14 in England, making it the first Jamaican-produced record to reach the UK top 20.

Altho popular in the US, it did not chart here.

On 17 July 1981 l, Soft Cell released their version of Tainted Love and went to number one in the UK charts.

A cover of this Gloria Jones banger.

Soft Cell's "Tainted Love" reached #8 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. It spent a then-record-breaking 43 weeks on the chart. The song debuted at #90 on January 16, 1982, and reached its peak position in mid-July of that year.

I remember it, as I was going into 10th grade that summer.

And finally, on July17th, 1985…

Minor Threat released their final EP, Salad Days. The band had long broken up by then, but I remembered they’re being a lot of excitement around this release. People thought that they would get back together…

The beside was a gray cover of the Standells classic, Sometimes Good Guys Don’t Wear White.

I have, although I can’t say I’m familiar with their songs. I may have a song or two on some compilation albums at home.

Feel feee to post some vids and good examples.

July 20,1976 was The Buzzcocks live debut supporting the Sex Pistols and Slaughter & The Dogs at The Lesser Free Trade Hall, Manchester.

What a show it must’ve been! So many people talk about it as a real turning point in the UK punk scene. From what I’ve heard 50 people were there although about 2836737822 people claim that they were there.

Happy 69th birthday to Paul Cook, "Cookie" Born today 20th July 1956 in Hammersmith London.

A seriously great drummer. Remember the first time I heard the Sex Pistols album, one of the first things that really stood out to me was the drums and how good they were.

May be a 5/5 album??

Can’t Stand The Rezillos was released on today’s date in 1978.

A seriously fun pop punk album that included their previous single “I Can’t Stand My Baby” as well as future classics “(My Baby Does) Good Sculptures” & “Top of the Pops”.

The album was recorded at the Power Station in NYC & reached #16 on the UK albums chart. Crickets in the good old US of A.

Wasn’t on the album, but whenever I think of the Rollow as I really think of this!

Heard this on my workout mix today. It never gets old.

I got to see bad brain several times, mostly in the late 80s not earlier in the decade unfortunately.

I did meet HR in 2011 or 12 or so, my friend band, vision was opening for them at a really small venue. We got there the morning of the show and had to sort of babysit HR, which was a tiny bit chaotic… 😂

But a super nice guy.

Clubs and venues…

I know hardly anyone even looks at this thread, but anyone have some great clubs or venues to see bands that stand out?

I have a few friends at work that are into music and we had a great club in Trenton, called City Gardens.

There’s a great book and a companion dvd. The dvd prominently featured one of my very good friends.

The Troc
stalag 13 and Killtime
The Troc was a good venue.

I always liked it. Saw Blur there when I was home on leave in 1991. Also recall seeing Gas Huffer and Riverboat Gamblers there.

We were supposed to see Stalag 13 a few weeks ago, with Fang and they were a no show.
