Advice from veteran authors

I know that AH has true champions of derailment, but I'd say that the topic of KOTOR, the only great piece of Star Wars after episode three, deserves more than to be another derailment of the original topic.
Maybe it is god damn time to have a dedicated SW thread? ;)
And it's probably fair if @Kumquatqueen gets the honor of creating it :p

Oh ye gods no! I was going to ask what Kotor is, but it's clearly some SW thing and I don't actually want to know.

(@AwkwardlySet is referring to Kumquat's Law, which is that the longer any Lit AH thread goes on, the probability of a Star Wars reference approaches one. Unfortunately.)

Jedi (might rank higher if they'd used Wookiee instead of Ewoks)
I never thought about it, but that would be a great improvement indeed to switch from Endor to Kashyyyyyyyyyyyyyyk (I believe that’s enough y’s) in RotJ.

If y’all haven’t played Fallen Order, you should go do it. It’s a great game and the Wookies have a major chapter there on their planet.

I can't remember where I read it, but apparently it was originally supposed to be Wookiees, not Ewoks. The whole sequence makes so much more sense then. You could actually imagining the Wookiees pulling it off. Together with a few heads and arms.

I never got very far with KOTOR (I've been to Kotor, though), but the hierarchy of SW movies is:

Empire
Rogue One
A New Hope
Jedi (might rank higher if they'd used Wookiee instead of Ewoks)
The space battle from the start of Revenge of the Sith
A big pile of disappointment that includes pretty much everything else
The closing montage of Revenge was excellent. If they'd edited out the middle two hours or so they'd have had a winner.

It should have ended with Darth Vader's helmet coming down onto Anakin's face, then faded to black, with only the sound of his respirator. That would have been the perfect ending for the prequel trilogy.

It's been a while. Isn't that exactly how it did end?

I know we are not expected to make any kind of bigoted comments or plot in our story. But if I want to show a bigoted person within my story - can their spoken dialogues have bigoted language? I mean if there is a story about KKK - can they be shown making comments about the Blacks? Will that flag my story?

This would not break the rules (as you state it). However, the language used MIGHT get it flagged and sent back. If that is the case, you would re-submit the story unchanged with a note to the admin in the notes field explaining that the racist language is merely your villain in character. This should pass 99% of the time.

The down side though is that your story will very likely get a mixed or poor reaction from the readers. The vast majority of the readership on lit only want happy people getting kinky. They don't like transgressive (dark or evil) themes to spoil their mood. Your story might still do very well, but most likely you will get a lower score and some negative comments. The category that you publish in will make some difference. Darker themes are not popular in Romance, or apparently in Incest, for instance.

I have a particularly dark story full of criminals and racists. It was published with no delay. I published it in Novels/Novellas, which is a category that usually approves of darker themes, yet the reaction is overwhelmingly negative. Nobody likes this story. It is very unpopular. So bear that in mind if you care about your scores and comments.

Look at the bright side. It beats Hitler references.
