Poetry... loosely speaking?

So i decided to submit a conceptual piece of story writing only for it to be rejected. A story in words. Single words flowing from one to another making the reader imagine the story from just the words. Not 750 words long it got rejected. Would poetry be a place for this work? I just wanted to try something different and I tried it with a couple of people and they both imagined there own version.

So what constitutes poetry on lit?

Hi and welcome to the poetry forum. You could try submitting your work as a poem. You'd just need to categorize it as erotic or not depending on the content.

I skimmed the FAQs and saw the 750 word minimum for story submissions but no maximum word info for poems (though admittedly I didn't scour the FAQs).

You could ask about poem length on the Editors' Forum: someone there might know. I recall many years back someone submitted a very long poem that was rejected and had to be resubmitted as a story. I'm pretty sure that was over 750 words.

You're certainly welcome to post the piece here. It sounds interesting but of course we're a very limited audience.

Sorry if this is not so helpful but we here on the forum have no role in the Literotica publication process.

If anyone here knows if there's a max length for poetry submissions, please share it with us!

Post in your own thread or doubly, in your own thread or in a poem a week 2025 to maximize exposure. Poetry forums could give you the opportunity to experiment that you desire. I recommend keeping it short like the black print in screen plays. As previously mentioned, dialogue is stage play. And poetry could be anything.

Who cares what I think? Nobody. We only care that you write and share.

Read, Give good feedback, don’t forget to swallow, don’t forget to gargle, don’t forget to spit feedback back out. Most importantly don’t be shy to be inspired by the writing of others’.

I also agree with SpermFactory, read up on writing dialogue. Sid Field's The Screen Writers Handbook will give you an excellent place to start. Also avoid OTT gimmicks. IDK. Also also, how will you avoid telling? By experimenting! Get posting babe.

I love the idea too. I'm now thinking how to apply it to a poem. It'd be fun to try, especially with rhyme or a traditional form, though you could make yourself crazy writing iambic pentameter lines (for example) of single words.
