What an incredible picture. What a view...!

Hope you love Superman. Enjoyed Thunderbolts myself, I knew what you mean about more nuanced and grey characters. Astro City is a great comic for that, more about looking at heroes from a more psychological and personal perspective.

Dorian Grey is amazing, haven't read it in a long time though. very much a book that stays with you, such a fascinating and flawed character...
Your "present" leads to a 404 Not Found error. Regardless, loved the update post, and good morning.

I myself have gone through something of a change recently. Through a temp agency I have started working with a construction company that is, at least for now, installing fences in a residential neighborhood for the foreseeable future and if I make it 90 days I'll be hired by the company for real. It's not difficult and I think I can make it work. It's not my first choice of career but I kinda feel like I should take what I can get, if you know what I mean, like life and the world have just been super shit in terms of what work the universe seems to allow me to do that I just have a sort of "why should I bother trying to do what I love" sort of mentality.

Anyway, on a more positive note, I will be making a pretty decent amount of money, almost certainly enough to get my partner and I out of shelters and into an apartment. So there's that. Anyway I'll see you all later I'm sure. Take care.
@ChasBozwell30 I never made it to the cinema… it just wasn’t my day today. BUT I did end up having a bit of a movie evening and ended up watching Friendship (Andrew DeYoungs directorial debut), didn’t even watch the trailer and went in raw. Then followed that by watching The Boy Behind the Door. The trailer gave me home invasion, close proximity, gore vibes. But it ended up making me simultaneously sob and clutch at the edge of my seat. Both were excellent in such different ways. Friendship was this strange, stylish blend of psychological tension and dark humour which I will now forever recommend to anyone wanting an interesting but fun, profound watch. It’s an interesting dive into obsession. And yes, 🙏🏼 The Picture of Dorian Gray isn’t a book that leaves quickly by any means. For anyone reading this right now, if you’re not afraid of a good classic, I’d recommend this for sure! Wilde has a way of making rot look pretty damn beautiful.

@desperado1089 Evening stranger. Wow, thankyou for sharing all of that! 🙌🏽 it sounds like you’ve been going through a few big, major shifts and I really admire your resilience. ❤️ Even if it’s not your dream job, showing up and making it work, especially in tough circumstances, takes real strength. And getting out of the shelter and into an apartment? That’s fucking huge. You should be really proud of that. 🖤 Like really proud!

I also totally get what you mean about feeling like the world has put limits on what you’re allowed to do, that annoying feeling of “why even bother?” can be super heavy. But please, I hope you don’t lose sight of the things you love. Sometimes being what feels like “stuck” within survival mode pushes passion to the background, but it doesn’t mean it’s gone forever! It’ll come creeping on back! 😍 Rooting for you darling, and hoping this new path opens more doors. Take care and don’t be a stranger. Ever.

Oh fuck!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥

IMG_7627 Medium.jpegMe right now reading all of your freaking lovely comments 😍😍 Welcome to the newbies here!! I love seeing new lurkers pop up and say hey, it makes me smile! 🙌🏽😉 (and depending on conversation style/compliment style, wet even 😏) is anyone awake at this time? (1.30am for me here).

Good morning everyoneee 😍😍

Thankyou so much for all your messages over the weekend! This girl is finally less busy today, had another summer fete yesterday, and was in of a charge of tea and cake tent.
It rained on and off, as British summer insists on doing, but it genuinely makes me laugh how committed we are as a nation. The heavens could open, thunder rumbling over the hook a duck, the antiques cars, the Punch and Judge stands, the jam pots, and still, there we’d be, stoically devouring scones and sipping tea 😅 I got first place for a flower decoration contest and a 3rd place at the ‘miniatures’ contest too! So proud of myself for that 😍😍

In more cultured news, I just finished re-reading The Picture of Dorian Gray, and I’m still not over it. I had read the book at the beginning of the year but I got through it really slowly, most of it didn’t quite sink in the way I knew it would reading it a second time around! What struck me this time is how it’s not really just a story about vanity or sin, but about the psychological cost of separating our public selves from the private truths we hope no one sees. Dorian doesn’t just sell his soul for eternal beauty; he sells it for the illusion that actions don’t have consequences, and the portrait becomes a grotesque mirror to all the ways we lie to ourselves. I think that’s so fucking interesting. I’m giving it a 5* rating!

Off to see the new superman movie today… (only because there’s nothing else good out yet and I REFUSEEE to watch the new Jurassic World Rebirth because a) the rotten tomato rating + reviews is enough for me to turn it down and b) the franchise is done for now, the original movies were amazing. No need to drag out the story with extra eye candy and OTT CGI scenes.)

Regarding Superman though, I prefer anti heros such as Deadpool, Rocket from guardians and the galaxy, Venom, Loki, every single character from Thunderbolts. I don’t know, there’s just something inherently cringe about Superman’s character? He’s too much of a perfect “Boy Scout”. I feel these days younger and older viewers probably want a less polished super hero, we want authentic, messy and REAL feeling characters, even if they have a suit or powers 🤣

That said, when he is written with depth (like in All-Star Superman or certain Justice League arcs), he could maybe be seen as more moving and profound. (That’s referencing comics). Mini review overrrrr 🥰

And since some of you may not have seen it, on Friday I posted in the FF thread…. I wouldn’t want some of you to have not seen it ;)

A present 🎁
Your comment about Superman being started me thinking about how my tastes in superheroes have changed. When I was young Superman was the ideal hero. Black and white, right and wrong. Solid line between the two. Getting older there comes a realization that the world is filled with shades of grey. Superman will always be hard to update to modern standards and to be anything other than a pure soul. It's the character's saving grace and ultimate downfall.

I personally think you've nailed it there! When we’re kids, we crave certainty, believe in good guys AND bad guys, and see only clear lines between right and wrong. Good versus evil. Hero versus villain. Superman fits perfectly into that comfortable world our parents and our limitless imaginations built. He's more of a symbol. But upon growing up we realise that most things aren’t that clean cut, morality become murky, dreams become nightmares, we learn more often than not that people carry contradictions. Its sad too, we don't have a cool movie or book teaching us that lesson, we have to go through those realisations and changes ourselves and THEN can we begin to relate to those anti heroes. Thankyou for you response, I really enjoy these types of conversation!
