RIP Connie Francis

I never heard of her before her death was announced, but it's sad news. And no RIP thread should go without a single reply.

I hope that she lived the life she wanted to live, and that her loved ones are left with happy memories of her.

Lipstick on your collar and the epic break up anthem who's sorry now were the two I recall my parents playing all the time.

She was one of the most popular solo women ever. "Pretty Little Baby" has been a recent hit on TikTok. It was originally the B side of a single. The A side was "I'm Gonna Be Warm This Winter."

I've often listened to her songs when writing stories set in the late 1950s and early 1960s to get me into the mood and the era. She was an extremely talented singer.

Reading about her life when I was a teenager turned me from chauvinist to feminist in one shocking minute. I've always been grateful for that, even as I hate the reason why. (For those of you who don't know, in 1974 she became one of the world's most famous rape victims.)

She was a heroine. She checked into a motel while performing at a music festival on Long Island. She informed the management that the door of her room would not close securely. They did nothing about it. That night, someone broke into the room, raped her and almost killed her.

Despite the damage she knew the publicity would do to her career, she sued the motel for the lack of security and won two and a half million in damages. She gave a lot of women the courage to speak up about their experiences of sexual assault
