It's not really the ocean though. Whidbey is in Puget Sound, which is kind of a gigantic tide pool, to over simplify it. The beaches are mostly rock because there isn't a massive ocean current, or giant waves to pummel then into sand, but you still get all the benefits of being seaside, like fishing, boating, whale watching, etc. I think we have two pods of resident Orcas in the Sound.Nice ocean view!
Whidbey is a nice little place for a weekend getaway, or a day trip to Deception Pass/Anecortes. Especially for the Oyster Festival. My uncle used to take me to the Naval Air Field to watch the Growlers do touch and go passes for carrier training. In case anyone ever wants to go there, needs a new spot to take a friend/partner...this is
The Inn at Langley on Whidbey Island.
Basically you go to Seattle, drive about 20-30 min northwest, take a ferry for 15 min across to Whidbey Island and then drive like 3 or 4 miles.
Cute little town.
Highly reco the inn. Cute, great views, good breakfast, big nice rooms etc.
Went to "Spyhop" for fish n chips and beers the first night. Decent for sure.
Went to "sprinklz" for ice cream...overpriced but quite good.
Some cool fun shops, and kayaking on the marina was fun. I saw FIVE seals! Lots of fish, and plenty of sea stars. I didnt see jellyfish (they said we might)..
Anyway just passing along the reco.
