The 50 Plus Cafe, Pub, All-Nite Greasy Spoon and Dive Bar

This is a good start. Wonderer has some other good advice downstream.

Here are a couple of outside the box things to consider. Do you have a lot of pine trees? Doesn’t even need to be in your yard. They shed needles and pollen cones which become lodged in between the cracks of your deck and then hold moisture. They can travel an amazing distance…Ask me how I know. After two replacements over 15yrs we threw in the towel and put in flagstone last summer…you may remember me whining about delays on that…

You’re probably going to need to water seal it at some point. The Thompson’s water seal works good but it only lasts a season or two before you have to reapply. I used the Aussie something or other, but F’ed up and used the Koa colored…waaaaay too dark and it was a south facing deck with no real shade in the afternoon…it got so damn hot…plants threw in the towel and you couldn’t walk on it.

I love the look of a nice deck. They can be little maintenance hogs…especially when long in the tooth.

PS…not my deck but I really like the look of this!
No trees and you bring up good points... I almost wish it was just stairs to the door... it is soo fucking expensive but I have to do something the damn thing is rotting off the house...and is dangerous as hell

If anyone’s interested, there is an excellent little article about ghosting in today’s New York Times (behind the paid firewall). https://www.nytimes.com/2024/07/01/well/ghosting-dating.html

In summary, it talks about how it’s the new normal and how to recover/ not let it hit your self esteem.
Unfortunately, I could not access the article.

But I am against ghosting in general. To just disappear is too easy in a virtual world. And easy is not always the right way to do things…

If I’m gonna break things off with someone, they’re gonna know why and they were going to hear it from me.

I’m cutting out of work early. Last night I fell asleep on the couch at about 10 o’clock. Woke up at 10:30 and went to bed. Except I didn’t fall asleep.

In fact, I didn’t start sleeping till 3:45 AM. I tried everything in my arsenal: nighttime CBD, box breathing, stretching, going to the bathroom, guided meditations, nice mellow music, even a little bit of THC.

Nothing worked, but I’m gonna try to cop an hour to sleep and try to stay up as late as possible tonight.

I am having serious problems logging in up here on the N. Coast so this is a quick update.

Saturday... long 12 hour run on the UK hottest day with no air con. Lots of stops for us and the boys. 100 Mile's out flagged by another driver.. burst tyre on the trailer. Nobody doing trailer tyres so last hundred miles of wilderness with 3 wheels on my wagon praying the chetokees didn't catch me. Well still here so guess they didn't.

Sunday recovery

Today sourcing tyres... be in Wednesday as replacing all four. Can't get the nuts off and no impact driver to help so guess it's another 50 miles on 3 wheels but at least no load. Got a short walk and saw the river is full of salmon but it's closed to fishing due to high water temperature.

What is next I ask myself but on the plus side the place is peaceful, the views and sunsets spectacular and the boys all okay.

Catch you when I can perhaps with a few photos.

Take care good people of the bar and don't do anything I wouldnt which is pretty much everything that doesnt involve strong drink or caffeine

Here’s the quick 4WD roundown.

4WD Low - for your thick sand / snow where you wont be going more than 5-15 mph. (See what the OEM suggests)
4WD High - for your packed sand / snow where you can drive faster but still need some X-tra traction.
4WD AUTO - This setting (if you have it) is like AWD…can be used at speed but it’s still suggested that there be some contamination on the road…wet, packed snow, rocky road, etc…

Weeeeell, we finally got the boat out and hit the ramp at extreme low tide. Now I know this area from when I used to clam there as a kid for summer jobs. I know the route but had forgotten a couple of little tidbits…like how to embark off the ramp and approach the ramp at low tide🙄. This particular ramp has a zigzag pattern you have to take…I’ve only been launching Kayaks over the last twenty years so had forgotten the ins and outs…

Anyhow we get out and after some cussing and dragging a loaded boat across the pluffmud sinking to my knees, we finally get out and basically had the place to ourselves. Some pro’s in skiffs zoomed by for the back bays, but we trundled to the second bay and at around hour three…just as the Solunar Tables predicted we got into the fish! Started out catching some pin fish, then got three speckled trout, and a HUGE doormat flounder! I’m guessing in the ten lb range! He sadly had to go back because we have a moratorium on flounder now…only four or five days to keep them in September…😫🥲😭

Had a great end to an otherwise run of the mill weekend. I hope y’all had a good one also! I was too tired to cook the fish last night so just filleted them and cleaned up the mud mess. Looking forward to that tonight.

4WD is for gription.

Traction is for tanks because they have tracks.

Well got a quote for back deck.... sticker shock

What questions should I ask him before I give him the go ahead?
So far I have

What material does quote include? Treated wood?.
Are supports cemented in?
Does the quote include unexpected findings like 10% or?
Itemized bill?
Time frame?

Easy monthly payments?

Cash or credit?

I treat tractors the same way I was taught to respect tanks. “ they are large, killing machines and designed to kill.”

So always respect.

Having said that, it was only two days ago that I learned that there’s a differential Lock to make the posi traction work! 😂

I kinda half-looked on Bo but didn't see it/one.

The little Fords have individual brakes what ain't broke.

Yet . . . .

Good article, I agree on ghosting someone if they make you feel unsafe.

But in general, the best line of the article is “be gentle with yourself”. Humans are wired to be social, so, we tend to take rejection way to hard.

Catching up...
Share! NOW! 🥮🤣
You heard her, @Qky... she wants your dense fudgy end and she wants it right now 🤣🤣
I hope you're putting in a generator at the commune!
Wait - are you saying there was an actual chance there wouldn't be a generator? 😲
I love sleeping when it's raining.
Yassss! Some of the "white noise" tracks I play at night are rainfall or thunderstorm 🥴🌧️
I hate, hate, hate fire season!
🤬🤬
I'm with you there... and I know some fires are healthy for the ecosystem... but my lungs sure don't know the difference 🫁😷
Not sure. Wouldn't mind a wallpaper just on accent wall... but I can paint to.... and it's just paint...takes me forever to decide on a color
Because that's the fun part... after that, it's just paint, paint, paint 🎨
Mom struggles with her phone.
My mom did, too. She always tried to tap with her fingernails. She didn't understand touchscreens need you to use your finger pad not your nails. It was widely known that whoever sat next to her doubled as Tech Support.
I wasn't a candidate for Lasik either. I think the most they are able to correct is a -6, IIRC.

My opthomologist had been after me for a few years to have the surgery. He finally basically put his foot down and TOLD me I was having it. My insurance wouldn’t cover his off-site clinic so I had it at the hospital where I worked. This was an advantage to me as I knew all the anesthesiologists.
Lasik - here are the top limits of correction
nearsightedness -12 diopters
farsightedness +6 diopters
astigmatism 6 diopters

I'll have to check with my insurance on the cataracts procedure, but even with a doctor's recco or Rx it may not fly. I'm correctable to 20/20 with glasses... and my cataracts are clear as a bell (of course)
You always make me so tired! I stayed in out of the (excessive) heat! 😅🥵😅
I know - feels like reading his posts are an exercise plan in themselves. 😂
I'll leave you with some moon pics I've taken this past weekend!
Beautiful - thank you for sharing!! 🥰🥰
Yesterday with my friends of 50+ years is what my soul needed to lift my spirits. Another 7 hour sleep and getting ready for another day.
Recharged on two levels - sounds wonderful, B2! 🫂
Keep us posted on what you find out with the doctor.
There is hope. I have some ice cream before I go to bed and that helps. My dad did that and now I know why.
Is that why guys eat ice cream before bed? To sleep better? 🤔 Is that really a thing?
I got an email from aapc to beta test the exam for free. There was no class. I took the practice exam made a study list and did my best!!
That and an energy bar sounds like the study plan of a lot of people I know. 😂
Hope all of you affected my smoke and the wildfires are OK. I was just on a call with our Canadian office, and it’s very very bad in the upper Midwest and in Ontario, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
Thanks - it is awful. It's also hot as heck over here today. Close to 90F. 🫠
Any way you can have your eye doc make a recommendation?

My sister has the same issue, and it’s so bad that she’s looking for a new eye Doctor that might be able to help her.
I can check with member services but doubtful as it all comes down to 💰.
It’s just the every day politics of business. Did I say “fuck em” a few days ago??
convoluted game of ratbaggery if you ask me 🙄
Low motivation...could be the grey rainy day
sadly, when the gray rainy burns off it will be a scorcher with smoke haze 🙄
I'll take gray and rainy over that any day
we threw in the towel and put in flagstone last summer
I can see why... decks are nice but not cheap
Oh..one more little gem
Oh, yuck! Hope you have all points of ingress securely closed off now. 😧
No trees and you bring up good points... I almost wish it was just stairs to the door... it is soo fucking expensive but I have to do something the damn thing is rotting off the house...and is dangerous as hell
Is it physically required for your structure? Or would tear-down and patio be more economical?
A co-worker just completed a new deck. She said it was fraught with supply issues, and almost triple-digit inflation on materials... plus so much rain at that time it delayed work for days and days.
If I’m gonna break things off with someone, they’re gonna know why and they were going to hear it from me.
💯 And in the closest format to F2F as you can manage. Long-distance relationship? Video call or phone call. Breaking it off over text or email is almost as 🐔💩 as 👻 IMO
I didn’t fall asleep.
☹️ Well that sucks balls - hope you can turn it around, W
Good evening and this sir quality is crappy from ozone and wildfire smoke ☹️.

It’s was better this morning so we had brunch out on the patio under the big shade tree. It was very nice. The first time in about 3 months.
glad you were able to take advantage while the air was breathable.
Take care good people of the bar and don't do anything I wouldnt which is pretty much everything that doesnt involve strong drink or caffeine
sorry about the WiFi but not unexpected tbh
enjoy the rest of your trip - 🤞on the tyres 🥃

Personal note: I feel "ghosting" is not the correct term when removing yourself from abuse or an unsafe situation/relationship. In those situations, I prefer a different descriptor such as:
Escape
Fleeing
Going No Contact

"be gentle with yourself" - I believe that's what @Wonderer67 and others call giving yourself grace 🫂
So, what is the evening game plan?
👻👻👻
JK - but I am ditching to read my book tonight

Have fun everyone

Rush project at work, so not a lot of time to check in today. Smoke has cleared some, outside at least. Still drilling spot welds and cutting steel on Rusty Car, but finally broke out the welder tonight. Patching a few big holes before getting to the fiddly sheet metal work.

Anyway. Off to relax a little and watch some TV. The better half has decided we're going to watch Grimm on Amazon, until we watch all the seasons.
