Fertility ranks

So not a very new idea, but maybe an idea that has been done before but in my own way I guess?

Fertility among men is dwindling causing a large drop in the world population. A new system has been put in place to combat this.

After turning 18, everyone is shipped off to 'college', now being deemed an age where they can procreate. The first day of this 'college' only the men are required to show up and their fertility is tested, they receive a rank based on the test results.

"Infertile" it speaks for itself, 80% of men receive this rank as 80% of the male population is infertile. By the people this is also referred to as F-rank or Failure rank.
C-rank, hardly fertile, but still able to produce children, it often takes them years to conceive. about 15% of total male population have this rank.
B-rank, low fertility, they can produce children, be it through some effort. quite rare, with about 4% of the male population receiveing this rank.
A-rank, Normal fertility (for our standards). Basically the avarage fertility of men before fertility started dwindling. only 1% of the total male population has this rank.
S-rank, highly fertile, basically they impregnate a woman mostly at the first try. This rank is extremely rare with around 1 in 10 million receiving it.

One of the biggest differences between the rights of the ranks, is for their wives. Everyone can marry however it differs a lot between the ranks.
Infertile men can have a girlfriend and even marry, however any man of C-rank or higher has the right to attempt to impregnate their wife since the infertile men can't do that themselves.
C-rank men can have 1 wife or girlfriend.
B-rank men can have 3 wives and/or girlfriends.
A-rank men can have 5 wives and/or girlfriends.
S-rank men can have 50 wives and/or girlfriends.
The limit for S-ranks is only there to prevent them from monopolizing too many women, but are basically free to do as they please.

Wives of men that are C-rank or higher, are protected and cannot be touched by other men, even those of a higher rank. Girlfriends of men of C-rank or higher cannot only be touched by men that have a higher rank than their boyfriend.

A man's rank and a woman's status of being a girlfriend/wife is displayed through jewelery that have a chip that is registered to the person and trackable. Stealing someone else's jewelery is basically signing your own death sentence, since this crime is punishable by death. So no one even dares to attempt it.

Infertile men, often do try to find a soulmate, however they usually end up raising another man's child, having to endure their spouse being used and impregnated by other men.
C-ranks often get married early, they live a modest lifestyle yet still in luxury, they don't go outside their marriage often since with their low fertility getting their wife pregnant is challange enough. B-ranks are usually a bit more outgoing with 3 wives and occasionally use their priviledge to lay with other women. A-ranks have lavish lifestyles, and go out a lot.
S-ranks are basically legends, get anything and anyone they desire.

My idea for a story in this setting is a bit under developed so far. My idea is for a guy who is not all that popular that has to go to 'college' and about to get tested. His childhood friend and secret love is a girl that lives next door to him. The problem is a 'popular' guy has his eyes set on her as well. The guy comes from a prestigeous family, his father is an A-rank and his mother is his father's favorite wife. He got pre-tested, something rich families often do and he already knows that he will receive an A-rank the first day of college.

The MC and the girl dread going to college because they know he will force her to be with him, that is however until the MC receives the legendary S-rank. Months of the guy taunting him, only to receive more power than the bully. MC, surprises the girl with his S-rank bracelet, this would make her his girlfriend and will protect her from all other men. They consumate their new relationship, however what else will the MC do? How will he get revenge on the A-rank bastard that planned to take his girl?


So what do you guys think? Any ideas on the setting, is there anything missing? Or anything not adding up?
Story pretty basic, any suggestions on the story are very welcome. I would like the story to go into Netori (MC taking other men's women.) and breeding (obviously)

I thought about it, but basically ranking the women wouldn't make sense since they don't have fertility issues.

I am thinking of adding the unfairness towards women in this system into the story. Basically women have their rights withdrawn because men are losing their fertility. Maybe I could add story elements where highly ranked men arrange marriages for their daughters so they would be protected even though the husband could be a high ranked asshole.

Maybe one of the goals of the MC could be that he wants to protect women from assholes and want to change the system and with his S-rank status he has a lot of power to influence others. Maybe his mother was used by a high-ranked and never married.

I think it would make sense in the setting that the world just views women as usefull for breeding, but that doesn't mean everyone in the story would share that viewpoint.

Might make for an interesting tale, if told from the women's perspective about trying to regain equal rights and trying to reopen sperm banks as part of the, "I don't want to fuck anyone besides my husband," movement. But even there, it doesn't sound very sexy.

To be a compelling story to me there would need to be some rebels. Some shenanigans. A couple that defy the conventions, swap results of sperm to fool the system, or get married in secret, or guys that raid the A or S ranks concubinage (not a word but you get what I'm saying).

I like the idea about a scientist trying to solve the fertility issue. Maybe the scientist has developing a cure for years now, experimenting on the MC. Even though it's still way to expensive to mass produce and requires a lot of treatments he succeeded. Because of this MC gets his S-rank status. MC finds out at the start of the story what his regular doctor's visits were for.

I'm thinking the MC and his childhood friend are actually in love, but they thought it was impossible since they never expected him to get a good rank and she would get targetted by men with a rank. Now he can protect her and a love story starts, however with some hurdles. The scientist maybe has a daughter and the scientist demands MC to take his daughter as his girlfriend to protect her, something MC's mom agreed to in exchange for the experimental treatments. (Basically the scientists motivation.) This causes friction as the MC now has a second girlfriend and neither is keen on sharing even though he is allowed lots of girlfriends by law, it doesn't erase the emotions.

MC might want to protect even more girls despite protests from the 2 girls, Meanwhile some people have took notice that someone who is considered from a low fertility lineage suddenly gained an S-rank and the scientist tries to develop a cure that can be widespread. Of course some people try to stop him, the 'fertile' families enjoy their position very much and don't want a cure.

Well it's not like they don't have a choice at all. They have a choice in who they marry, not so much in who to have sex with/have a child with.

Women who are married to a C-rank or higher are devoted to their husband and other men can't have sex with them. Being the girlfriend of a man means only men with a rank higher than their boyfriend can have sex with them.

So having a infertile husband/boyfriend means that still every man with a rank can have sex with them and they can't refuse. So it is beneficial to marry a man with a rank so they aren't free use for every man with a rank.

I know I made this a bit complicated and I probably am explaining it a bit confusinglybut basically women can choose who to marry, not choose who to have sex with (With contraception outlawed.). But who they marry affects their sexual life.

• There would have to be some kind of science-y reason why they would still rely on actual intercourse and not just use artificial insemination
• Both men and women would be tested and graded annually (it takes 2 to make a baby and fertility changes with age)
• The most precious resource would be the male fertile sperm - after all, a fertile woman can have sex many times a day, but there is a limit to how many 'shots' a guy can do. As a result, male masturbation would be banned along with any other sexual practices that end with cum outside the vagina (so no handjobs, oral, anal etc.)
• To make sure no fertile shots are wasted, men would be prohibited from sex with women graded lower than themselves
• Men would be able to demand sex from women of the same rank as themselves only (lower is prohibited and higher might be a waste of the fertile woman's time)
• Women would be able to demand sex from any man the same rank or lower than themselves (frequent sex improves pregnancy chances, but can't have them wasting the high-fertility shots)

This setting would also allow for quite a few new taboos - e.g. sex with someone prohibited (lower ranking woman), forbidden sexual acts (oral, anal etc.). Kind of like a reverse breeding kink

I feel like this brings some balance to the story, while also allowing what @Nightscream89 envisioned. Even though only the people of same ranking are allowed do the deed, that doesn't stop the women/men from lower rank reach out to those of the higher rank. While it's illegal, there's nothing stopping them from trying.

Both men and women of higher rankings would have the unfair power, but I think the men would still have a upper hand. For example: once a high ranking women is impregnated, I feel she would basically be challenged for her power for a short period of time.(Though pregnancy solidifies her status, I think her power/authority would dwindle during that short time on the men of her own ranking, but might have totally opposite effect on the lower ranking men/women.)

For men, it will be a entirely different. Even if he is limited by the number of times he could perform (which cannbe countered by some si-fi medications) there nothing challenging their power. ( I might be entirely wrong. So please feel free to correct me.) I only was I see this being solved is through having a matriarchal society, that has the power to keep these high ranking men in check.
