The Economy

Deflection. That’s all you do.
No, I answered your question. Good ideas and good politics often don’t align. To get the votes needed to pass the bill, GOP representatives in certain districts and states felt it would be better politically to make the reforms effective after the midterms.

Your turn. If the TCJA individual tax rates were bad, why didn’t Dems repeal them when they controlled Congress and the WH?

I’m glad that you agree the Republicans in Congress are weasels.

The Democrats didn’t draft or pass the tax cuts for billionaires, so was it their responsibility to repeal them when they were supposed to expire anyway? I certainly would have liked them to.

Republicans are clearly weasels by commission. Democrats are maybe weasels by omission, because they didn’t clean up the Republican mess.

🙄

BabyBoobs ( a total POS GASLIGHTER) knows goddamned well why…

Because "Democrats" did NOT control congress from 2020 - 2022, Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema did…

🤬

ACTUAL DEMOCRATS got what Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema (and their corporate overlords) allowed.

Hope that ^ helps.

The TCJA expiration date wasn’t a state secret. Democrats chose to keep the rates intact when they held power and let the 2025 president and congress decide what to do. Thankfully the GOP won and the $4.5 trillion dollar tax hike has been averted. At the same time, common sense reforms to Medicaid in the BBB will slow the deficit exploding rate of increase your party created. Would it have better to make those Medicaid reforms become effective sooner? Absolutely. I wish all GOP members were on board with that but some would not budge. Such is politics.

🙄

BabyBoobs’ “refuttal” to the truth about Joe Manchin & Kyrsten Sinema being faux Democrats (ESPECIALLY when it comes to economic / tax policy) is “NUH-UHHHH”.

Related:

Joe Manchin & Kyrsten Sinema are no longer members of the Democratic Party.

I would have to admit that I am. I thought he'd do a lot to boost the economy, but all this random tariff nonsense and destroying out relationships with major trading partners and allies was not at all on my radar. t's literally crazy and it's going to destroy American unless it's reined in.
The fundamental problem is the destruction of Trust. Trump unilaterally wiped out 20 trade agreements with major partners. They have been slow to engage with the US in negotiation because what is the point? Trump is just as likely to walk away from any new agreement so for most countries there is no point talking to him or his people.

Exactly. Last time he was in he renegotiated with Canada and Mexico, signed agreements, etc etc etc and he just walked in, ripped them up and abitrarily said here you go, these are the tariffs - and he completely does not understand trade deficits either, and on tiop of that he just lies and makes things up. And on top of that he still seems to think other countries rather than American pay those tariffs. It's terrifyimg that he's making these decisions based on a seeming fantasy state of affairs that exists only in his own mind, and his enabkers just nod along like dummies.

To a certain extent some smallercountries have to humor him, bit others don't.

He's realy in the process of destroying the American economy, destroying oour tarding and security relations with other countries and destabilizing the world econmy, as well as encouragung everyine to dumo the US dollar as the world's reserve currency - and THAT will increase our debt costs. Inflations going to rise, that wll push up the cost of our debt, which is unsustainable, and treasury Bonds are going to be sold off.

He's going to destroy the GOP as a Party and make them unelectable at a Federal level for years.....and THAT is going to hurt us even more. It's insane.

Ans really, all he had to do with downsize the Feds, and deport illegals, and do away with some of the regulations that inhibit business while positioning the GOP as a pro worker and small business party.

He's in the process of fucking that up big time. Come 2026 mid-terms he's going to be a lame duck.

After months undermining Ukraine, Trump Admin Tries to Win Back Europe’s Canceled Arms Deals

Trump may not understand that he's severely damaged the US defence industry but Rubio does......it's way to late to walk back the damage that Trump has done tho. The USA has clearly defined itself as an unreliable partner - in fact, not as a partner at all

In a new op-ed published in USA Today, Secretary of State Marco Rubio praises the Trump administration’s NATO strategy as a “historic” success, touting a sweeping agreement under which alliance members will raise defense spending to 5% of GDP. But behind the celebratory tone lies a clear undertone of concern: America’s dominance in the global arms market is slipping and Trump’s Ukraine policy is largely to blame. Rubio calls on allies to open their defense contracts to U.S. firms, arguing that American manufacturers are uniquely positioned to meet NATO’s growing needs. “The United States is the only country in the world with the companies fully capable of adequately supplying Europe’s defense needs,” he writes.

What he doesn’t say is why so many "allies" are choosing not to.

Since returning to office, President Trump has actively undermined military support for Ukraine. The administration halted intelligence sharing that allowed Ukrainian forces to target Russian positions with U.S.-made HIMARS, delayed critical arms deliveries, and repeatedly cast doubt on Kyiv’s war aims. For many NATO governments, these actions didn’t just damage the war effort — they called into question whether U.S.-made weapons could be relied on in a real conflict. That political unreliability is now being factored into procurement decisions.

In the past six months, countries including France, Germany, South Korea, and Italy have seen an uptick in defense exports to NATO partners. Poland has ordered artillery systems from South Korea. Lithuania is negotiating drone deliveries with France. Even traditionally U.S.-aligned governments, like Finland’s, are diversifying away from American suppliers. “There’s a real fear now that the U.S. will turn off support mid-fight,” said a senior European defense official who requested anonymity to speak candidly. “Trump already did it to Ukraine. No one wants to be next.”

The issue is not just technical — it’s political. Many of the systems at the heart of NATO’s warfighting capacity, including long-range missile platforms and air defense networks, require not just hardware, but continuous U.S. cooperation for updates, targeting, and operational integration. That cooperation now feels conditional. Rubio’s op-ed frames the 5% spending pledge secured at the June NATO Summit in The Hague as a landmark achievement and a validation of Trump’s years-long campaign to push allies to spend more. But the real story is how those billions will be spent — and on whom.

Rubio insists the U.S. is best positioned to meet alliance needs. But after months of watching Washington deliberately undercut Ukraine, many allies are not prepared to let their security depend on the political whims of a U.S. president openly skeptical of NATO unity. Rubio may be right that NATO is spending more than ever. But his op-ed reveals something else: America is asking for trust again — after having spent the better part of a year proving it can’t be counted on.

So sad, too bad. Rubio's pissing in the wind here. The US defence industry has already lost billions in sales and will continue to do so. Nobody should be surprised. This is part of America's demise as THE word's superpower. China won by a default.

Major US defense companies like Lockheed Martin and Northrop are thriving.

Anyone that isn’t skeptical about the numbers coming out of this corrupt administration is being willfully ignorant. But then, willful ignorance is the common MAGAts’ permanent state of being (bliss), so…

😑
I do not know anyone that wants to work and does not have a job.
I do know some people that got laid off. Microsoft just cleared a second set of thousands of employees. Change is afoot. As they release they are hiring just as many.

By the way, you are not willful.

Just purely ignorant.

Have you ever considered contributing actual facts or data to the discussion? Bluster really has no value in an economics thread.

This thread is full of facts about the economy that I posted. Real data from government sources.

And before you pretend “the government lies”, I’ve posted data from the Trump administration too. Are they lying?

Anyway, I know you’re not going to start posting facts or data. You’re one of the people who like to rant with no supporting evidence.
