is it a bad movie? def not
for a real f1 movie, youll still enjoy it but theres a lot of "oh man, that pretty fucking unrealistic" situations/scenes
the camera work is top shelf
if yer a casual f1 fan or even just want to see some "Fast cars go zoom" then its fun
its not a documentary. theres some realistic stuff and some stuff that def stretches shit. but they did a pretty epic job and it was fun for sure.

i know this is blasphemy to some, but if you dopnt know anything about f1, watch the first 2 episodes or so of drive to survive on netflix...granted season 1 was like...5 or 6 years ago, but itll explain some stuff and you get to know the main people...really makes you like most everyone or youll pick your favorites etc and watch them coe up from shittier teams and being inexperienced to then driving for mercedes, ferrari, red bull, mclaren (those are the "big 4" currently)...other teams like say, williams, used to be epic and have won a toooooon of championships but its been a long time and theyre slowly moving their way back up. other teams...maybe notsomuch. the more you win, the more money your teams gets in the end, the more time you get to develop a car, use the wind tunnels, stuff like that...so its a slow burn for some teams. but...you get a really great driver or make a really good car and then you can compete really quickly. a year and a half ago, or jsut over, mclaren were absolute shit.
since then, theyve won basically every fucking race. not every, but close. regardless, theyre easily top dog now.

that said if you start with season 1 theres some drivers and even teams from then that dont exist anymore even (teams sometimes get bought/sold). so next year for example, the current team of "kick/sauber" will be Audi...and they used to be Alfa Romeo
Cadillac is joining as an 11th team.
There used to be Renault (they have morphed into "Alpine").
Aston Martin were Force India a bit ago.
Fucking Racing Bulls have gone through a trillion names in the last few years alone. Basically they are Red Bull Jr.
I support Ferrari. Because I am Italian and fuck you, they are Ferrari.

if you do get into it, its great to start maybe with a rookie and support him so you kind of "Grow" with him.

but as a baseline for some quick knowledge
theres 10 teams, each have 2 drivers
they work as a team, but each driver's biggest competition is his teammate
the cars are definitely different, not all cars are the same but there are rules about certain things with the cars...minimum weights, certain functions certain brake systems and so on.
they all use the same sets of tires for the qualifcations and races...if you watch an intro itll says "we have the c2, c3, c4 today" or similar. it comes down to hards, mediums, softs. and theres more if it rains but lets not worry about that.
the differences are that the hard tires last longer, but they take longer to heat up and go optimal speeds. the softs "go the fastest" but also get trashed the fastest.
each race you have to use TWO different compounds (ire types)...so it becomes a strategy of when to pit and change tires...do you start slow and try to picky uor way through the pack and make up time as the other drivers pit, do you go longer at the end, do you even pit stop twice or more during a race...
each pit stop takes ABOUT 2.x seconds. which is fucking bonkers. they dont add fuel. they change all four tires and boom, theyre back off. sometimes if theres damage they change the front nose. that adds a few seconds.
and honestly, thats all you really need to know to START
theres plenty more about qualification, abotu penalties, the safety cars, and so on

now to be fair, i fucking love qualification
thats USUALLY on saturday mornings in the USA
the reaosn i love it because it all comes down to how fucking fast and perfect you can drive one fucking lap
no real pit strategies or tire strategies etc. yes it comes into play but really barely

the races are great too, dont get me wrong. i watch them all. but i loooove quali for sure.

also...quali is about an hour and the race is about 90 min usually. if theres red flags (race is stoipped, usually due to some crazy crash) then it goes longer.
so you can "explain to the wife"...hey this will only take 90 min, it isnt the cowboys vs the niners and gonna take 3 1/2 to four hours. no timeouts. no commercials even. thats right. no fucking commercials. same with the race. unless theres a stoppage for rain/crash then sometimes ok but really no.
same with football (soccer). no breaks. no commercials. just go go go and then its done. you can almost set yer watch by it!
