Regardless of genre....... for your average short story.... what do find the hardest to get right / achieve / be happy with? Anything included, from initial idea, characters..... all the way through to grammar or sentence construction? any part of getting the damn thing completed :)

What do you mean Kitty? :) This is a valuable learning experience........ def not fucking about!! :)

Exactly what I said: to sit down and start writing.

Writing isn't the hard part. It is starting to write the hard part.

It's the motivation cycle. Motivation creates action, and action brings more motivation. However, in order to start the cycle, action comes first, and then motivation follows.

My problem is focus. I have several stories, each under several concepts. I write as I think/fantasize, which is apparently all over the place.

I find it hardest to finish. Starting is easy. Ideas are easy. Writing is easy.

If the characters don't talk to me? Finishing is hard.

Thanks a lot for all these replies, they've made me smile and am a couple of pages in - not even writing the story I intended, but an older one thats been in my head for a long time........... and so one I didn't have an excuse for not just "Start typing the damn thing, for God's sake!"
