Here is a time-stamped video of how quickly a Texas flood forms sped up 100x.

At 5:10 pm local time on the Fourth of July, the river was at normal depth.
By 5:17 pm local time on the Fourth of July, the river was at 100-year flood stage.

Seven minutes.

That's not enough time to reach higher ground.

I've seen maybe a dozen of these since I've moved to Texas over a decade ago. Gotten stranded in three of them. Thankfully I live in Houston where the drainage is first rate (we can drain off 12 standing inches of water into the reservoir and/or the shipping channel in less than 90 minutes.

Knowing that ^ can happen, it is beyond incompetence & negligence that the local MAGAts in positions of authority didn’t order the evacuation of those summer camps along the river well in advance.

Those local MAGAts in positions of authority need to pay a price for this easily preventable tragedy.

DonOld, DOGE, and the MAGAt republicans (federal, state, & local) need to pay a price for this easily preventable tragedy.

Blame MAGATS, that's LAZ's typical response to everything. LAZ blamed Trump for the Palestine derailment. If an asteroid hit the earth it would be Trump's fault. The flood waters rose 20 feet in less than 3 hours. In an AI report the Guadalupe river rose 26 feet in 45 minutes. That's hard to comprehend, even in a flood zone. It's an every 100 year event. Monday morning quarterbacks blabbing, who don't know shit. Having two girls myself I just don't know how those parents continue to get up in the morning. Their lives are destroyed. My prayers are truly with the families. They'll be plenty of time to evaluate and fix things.

In 2015, a flash flood just 75 miles east of Kerrville saw its river rise to almost 30' in a matter of just a few hours, killing 13 people and destroying hundreds of homes. A better warning system (beyond word of mouth from upstream) has been proposed but rejected as costing too much.

Officials in Kerr County, Texas, had long been concerned about kids’ summer camps along the banks of the Guadalupe River, an area known as “flash flood alley.”

The camps in the idyllic Texas Hill Country, where children from the surrounding big cities of San Antonio, Austin and Fredericksburg came to fish, horseback ride, and snorkel, relied on a word-of-mouth system from camps further up river when it came to flooding, according to The New York Times.

It brought the dangers of flash flooding front of mind for officials in Kerr County who debated at local meetings whether to bolster their flood emergency system with weather sirens now used by other cities.

Tom Moser, a former Kerr County commissioner, proposed that Kerrville establish a similar system to one that had been put in place in Wimberley.

But it was deemed too expensive by fellow commissioners.
floods in 1987 in Kendall county killed teens and it spurred them to install outdoor sirens; these same sirens went off in warning as the Guadalupe river rose but at a full 81 miles from Kerrville... well.

Based on the drought conditions (hard soil) and the predicted rainfall, the local MAGAt authorities should have erred on the side of caution and evacuated those summer camps along the river; full stop. (But MAGAts always know better than the experts.)

🤬

Also:

It is more than apparent that DonOld, DOGE, and the MAGAt republicans’ (federal, state, and local) policy decisions directly contributed to the scope of the tragedy.

I'm still undecided as to whether he's so stupid he actually believes the shit he posts or he's just a congenital liar. <shrug>

Happy to see you signing your posts again.

The MAGAts have a new acronym: MRTM…pronounced “mortem”…as in “death”…

Quite apt, in light of the MAGAtts’ moronic policy decisions / actions (failures) that directly contributed to the deaths of Americans and the death of America.

That is pretty crazy. In the Northeast they built dams to control that kind of flooding. But a lot of old farms and villages were sacrificed under the reservoirs.

President Donald J. Trump Approves Major Disaster Declaration for Texas

Release Date:
July 6, 2025
WASHINGTON -- FEMA announced that federal disaster assistance is available to the state of Texas to supplement recovery efforts in the areas affected by severe storms, straight-line winds and flooding from July 2, 2025, and continuing.
The President's action makes federal funding available to affected individuals in Kerr County. Assistance can include grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses and other programs to help individuals recover from the effects of the disaster.
Federal funding is also available to state and eligible local governments and certain private nonprofit organizations on a cost-sharing basis for emergency work and the repair or replacement of facilities damaged by the severe storms, straight-line winds and flooding in Kerr County.
Benjamin Abbott has been named the Federal Coordinating Officer for federal recovery operations in the affected areas. Additional designations may be made at a later date if warranted by the results of damage assessments.
Individuals who sustained losses in the designated areas should first file claims with their insurance providers and then apply for assistance by registering online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov, by calling 1-800-621-3362 or by using the FEMA App. If you use a relay service, such as video relay service (VRS), captioned telephone service or others, provide FEMA the number for that service.

Trump plans Texas visit on Friday to survey flooding damage from ‘100-year catastrophe’

What portion of current FEMA donations go toward the tower?

Yes, our hearts are out to the families. They did nothing wrong but hope folks in power would care about them. Pulling resources from systems that could help or at least alert folks… (especially in a manner that is uneducated, using a bulldozer when a scalpel is needed).

Ding, Fries are up. Wait, hashbrowns this early. Your place have Onion rings?

Absolutely amazed by the heroics of those who showed up to rescue people in harms way. Many people have the ability to rise up to meet the moment and save lives.

And I'll add my admiration to those who have made their living to serving their communities.

I wish I was younger as I always felt I should've been a firefighter.... Just had my attention elsewhere when I should've volunteered. Not saying I would be a hero or anything..... But I always thought I would've been good at it.

If you bother to go back through the history of these sort of events the first responders are your friends and neighbors.

Yes, I know the people personally who are part of the first responders in my community. There is a guy who's been a local firefighter for 20 years who lives around the corner.

A friend I went to high school with ended up becoming fire chief where I grew up.

And that's not including paramedics and cops that are friends of mine.

Not just the "official" responders. In NC last year it was private parties flying their own helo's in for rescue. Locals with heavy equipment went to work restoring roads and putting in temporary bridges. All while the state sat around and argued over who was going to be in charge, who was going to get credit, and who was going to pay for it. Those private parties didn't ask for a fucking penny.

Texas has a pretty good record of fast responses though, we shall see.
