would it attract voters away from the trump party? there is no Republican party anymore.

if it could dilute support in the mid-terms and maybe beyond, he should go for it; his spearheading of doge and bromance with trump isn't likely encourage democrats to jump ship.

Actually, I think Musk is doing this mainly to expedite the part of Project 2025 that could not be done in the BBB for political reasons, which is to slash Social Security, Medicaid, Medicare, SNAP, and other services much deeper. He's a heartless bastard who wanted to do that in the first year, but Johnson knew it wouldn't get enough votes.

Elon Musk never stood for anything but massively cutting the size of the Federal Government. I do not see much genuine support for that. Many Americans want less government "in principle," but there is little support for making specific cuts in the domestic budget. Every item in the federal budget has a powerful constituency to protect it, and the largest and most expensive programs are the most popular. Most Americans want the government to help get them through their lives.
