I love my characters. They love the representation of me (usually the patriarch).

'Cept the antagonists, who I write to be a pain-in-the-butt. And eventually they are banished to points both known and unknown. I've never killed anybody off.

I don't know, I never thought about it with most of the things that I've published. I'm not sure if I ever get to interact with Red, but I'd get along with Brie no doubt.

This reminded me that I should interview my characters more often.

In answer to the OP, I would get on with my characters, but I wouldn't be in their inner circle or anything.

Except for Liz. She thinks I'm great.

That would be interesting date. Most of my characters are based on the real life people I have seen or met. Some of them hybrid's of certain traits I liked. The only catch is I make my characters earn their rewards and path is usually very tricky. They tend to be real task masters at times.

I hope so. My characters are all idealized representatives of people I know or wish I could know. The antagonists are people I’d treat same as I do in the stories, they would still die or go to jail or whatever. But the good people, well, I hope we’d be pals at least. More than that with the women, obviously.

Most of my characters are based on my fantasies, so yes, we'd get along. It'd be a party!

Blue and Mikayla, I don't think I would be able to advise on anything, if any of my characters didn't like me it would probably be them

I have at least one which recently crossed over from bad guy to good guy.

Neighbor lady was constantly going to police about the "loud parties" at the MMC's house, and threatening to sue. As the story developed, it was revealed she had a torrid affair with the MMC resulting in her husband divorcing her. The situation was so heated the presiding judge reamed the MMC a new one in private, telling him to keep away from her. He complied, she didn't know why he suddenly dumped her, and her resentment festered. 15 years later she found out about this, the fondness for each other came out, but instead of resuming their liaison, his life was full and he matched her with his best friend. Not quite HEA, but all parties are satisfied - heh heh - with the resolution.

I get on well with intelligent women, so I can see myself getting along with Laura, my FMC.

I have much in common with Adam, my MMC, so probably 'yes', but it might get too competitive.

Most of my male protagonists are kinda boring with the lone exception being Eddy from The Making Of Widow's Journey.

The female characters are all sexually-aggressive, dominant and a little scary, however I'd be up for a FWB situation with them, although they're all pretty much out of my league.

I would love to know almost all of my characters. I don't enjoy writing people that I don't like. Almost every one of my MCs is an introvert. It is who I understand.
I can only think of one MC I would have problems with. He has too much of my arrogant asshole streak. No room would be big enough for both of our egos.

Neither of the characters that I would seriously dislike survived their stories.

I have a handful of party happy characters I could tolerate for short periods, but would never be good friends with.

And some of my characters are just kind of meh, that would be boring to hang out. Ironically, one of them is actually based on one of my best friends ever. Something got lost in translation.

Many of my stories include real life encounters, or were inspired by such, and most characters are based on someone or other I know, or knew, way back when. Except for the alien angel on Titan, although I did see a painting by William Blake who inspired him, so even there, there's a real world connection.

That's exactly my point. My real world and my wish world are almost polar opposites. Many of the names I use are people from long ago who I did not get along with and I'm writing them in the way I wish they were. Basically rewriting and fetishizing how things were.

For characters in stories to be believable. They have to have personality/ ethics / morals. They must have traits readers can get behind and cheer for, or alternately... Hate...
There has to be a villain, even in a romance. How else can the heroine rush in and save the damsel, if there's nothing to save her from???

If the writer is good enough to develop lovable luscious characters, then of course as readers. There is an attraction. The same I think applies to the writer. You have to establish some emotional connection with them to bring out the best in them...

I've been told I'm good at writing bullies. The bullies in my stories are usually based on people I really knew, and didn't get along with very well the first time around.
The "good" guys and gals in my stories? Yes, I think I'd get along with them pretty well.
