remember asbestos? that shit? trump's EPA is considering making it legal again

I did speculate a few days ago that Trump would be taking bribes from the tobacco industry, but it seems I was too timid with my forecast.

'Make Asbestos Great Again' is the new slogan.

At this rate, by the end of the year we'll have lead paint back in children's toys (gotta be cheaper than the Chinese woke product) and arsenic in cosmetics.

Day by day this presidency becomes more and more outlandish, what sane person would even contemplate bringing back asbestos?

Flashback:

In the 1930's and 1940's, Sumner Simpson was the president of Raybestos-Manhattan, Inc. The Sumner Simpson Papers also included correspondence between Mr. Simpson and the heads of other asbestos corporations that illustrate an intention to cover up evidence regarding the health hazards of exposure to asbestos and asbestos-containing products. In 1935, Mr. Simpson wrote to Vandiver Brown, an attorney for Johns-Manville Corporation, stating that "the less said about asbestos, the better off we are."

In a confidential memo, a Bendix Corporation executive wrote, “If you have enjoyed a good life while working with asbestos products, why not die from it.”

In a 1984 deposition describing a meeting between Brown, Johns Manville attorney Vandiver Brown and officials from the asbestos firm Unarco, Charles Roemer recalled Lewis Brown’s callous disregard for his employees’ health.

“I’ll never forget,” Roemer said. “I turned to Mr. Brown, one of the Browns made this crack (that Unarco managers were a bunch of fools for notifying employees who had asbestosis), and I said, ‘Mr. Brown, do you mean to tell me you would let them work until they dropped dead?’ He said, ‘Yes. We save a lot of money that way.’”

Next? Smoking in bars compulsory?
Oh Gawd, smoking in prohibited in all bars within the Houston city limits. There are literally dozens of bars just outside of Houston where smokers congregate.....for all intents and porpoises smoking is compulsory in these places.

I met a friend in one of these smoking bars to watch a football playoff earlier this year....when I got home I had to strip off all my smokey clothes and throw them in the garage and then take a shower before bed. Ugh.

Social Media Trashes Trump’s EPA Over Move to Bring Back Asbestos

which begs the question "who stands to profit from the reversal of the Biden total ban that came after years of a partial ban?"
My question: Will the donald next try to put a stop to all the mesothelioma lawsuits, 'cause you know asbestos good, dead workers not so bad. And will this extend to other things like: lead in gasoline (who the fuck needs clean air?), the ban on fluorocarbons ( you know 'cause the old refrigerants that kill the ozone work better so why the fuck not) allowing industry to dump what ever that want into our water ways ('cause you know it's expensive to take care of that shit and that money could go to the owners)? Hell yes! Let's do it Donnie!

It's wonderful. I hope it kills millions of MAGA shitheads. They all deserve to die and I hope their cult leader finds more ways to kill all of them.

What was asbestos used for, anyway? Was it only for fireproofing?
It was used for cheap pre-formed fabrications, such as corrugated sheet for roofing. There are still lots of garages and farm buildings with the stuff on the walls and roofs. As long as it's undisturbed it's safer to leave it alone than try to move it. I was looking at a house for sale a few months back that had a garage with an asbestos roof; there are specialist companies that take it away in huge plastic sacks if required. In the end the deal fell through and I bought another property. It's someone else's problem now...

fireproofing, popcorn ceilings, insulation (especially in shipyards), floor tiles, drywall, flooring felt, wall-patching applications, brake linings, rollboard, commercial paper, corrugated paper, specialty paper, gaskets, fireproof clothing, lye, chlorine, and (as of this article) potential new uses such as:
  • Adhesives, sealants and roof and non-roof coatings
  • Arc chutes
  • Beater-add gaskets
  • Extruded sealant tape and other tape
  • Filler for acetylene cylinders
  • High-grade electrical paper
  • Millboard
  • Missile liner
  • Pipeline wrap
  • Reinforced plastics
  • Roofing felt
  • Separators in fuel cells and batteries
  • Vinyl-asbestos floor tile
  • Any other building material (other than cement)

But more than 50 years after a landmark study confirmed this, asbestos is a poster child for a broken regulatory process. It is still used by U.S. industry, present in 30 million homes, and is a contaminant in consumer products, including children's toys and makeup.

But the march toward a ban came to a grinding halt with the election of Donald Trump. In 2005, speaking as a real estate developer, he told a Senate committee this
  • Donald Trump:
A lot of people in my industry believe asbestos is the greatest fireproofing material ever — ever made.

  • Miles O’Brien: Trump's appointee in charge of chemical safety at the EPA is Nancy Beck, who came straight from a high-level post at the largest chemical lobbying firm in the country, the American Chemistry Council.

Miles O’Brien:
And so does the asbestos. The United States has imported more than 6,000 tons of asbestos since 2011, almost all of it used by the chlor-alkali industry to make chlorine. It mostly comes from Brazil, but, in 2017, that country banned the mineral, as have more than 60 other nations.

As Brazil winds down production, asbestos imports will increasingly come from Russia, where some shipments are stamped with a seal of the president's face, along with the words "Approved by Donald Trump, 45th President of the United States."

It's wonderful. I hope it kills millions of MAGA shitheads. They all deserve to die and I hope their cult leader finds more ways to kill all of them.
That's a stupid comment. Asbestos is like a Honey Badger, they don't give shit who they fight. It doesn't give a shit who it kills.

And you wonder why people think you’re a …..?
The heat ducts in our high school were coated in asbestos. We used to run down the halls, jump and smack them, and dust and white flakes would rain down on the person behind us. :)

So that makes it suitable to deregulate?
