The General Board. Two Point Oh.

You got the American oil?
Ma' Lady, I'm halfway to eighty-seven. My mind isn't dim, though, and my thoughts are still quite promiscuous. My lengthy dipstick registers a quart low these days.

But yeah, it's all American! Though it's more thoughts these days than checking out someone's levels. [If you get my innuendo.]

Why are you here?

We could get all philosophical on that. But what I mean is, why are you here on a sub (Hahaha!) forum that focuses on current and mostly political events?

I originally came to Lit for the porn. A side benefit was a forum. Even better, there was a place where you could, conveniently, talk about almost anything.

I read some porn. I posted. Rinse and repeat.

Fast forward about 20 years. I have a porn collection. And I will admit that I'm no longer here for the porn.

Why are you here?
I first came here for the porn and stories as well. Then the chat, then about a month ago the forum.

I am in the Forum to chat with other freaks and to keep myself sexually calm(er).

I am in the PB because I love politics and opinions, and maybe older men, which the PB is full of. 😍

This is a shameful admission. Honesty isn't expected here, and it's refreshing to read that it's open like this.

I came here during Covid–bored out of my gourd. Read, then tried some writing, then more of that. I still read, but developed an addiction to the needles in the politics forum. I can't help it and have tried cold turkey, but with the mayo on it, I keep slipping off. Okay, I'll stop. I hear the groans.]

So, an old guy asking a kid why she is here seems crushing it.

I like to watch and read the news, then come here to get an in-depth look at what people are saying about it. After you filter out the insults, there are a lot of highly intelligent and informed people who post here.

This is the reality; many come here to discuss current events because that settles what's going on in their minds. It's like an atheist and a preacher talking about the Bible - neither will change their minds but the discussion solidifies what they believe moreso than talking to the guy in the mirror or expounding on the street corner to strangers.

Which is why I don't care about typos, and many here care about nothing else except typos.

If you find yourself too invested in this place do yourself a favor and throw your laptop out the window, get your life back on track and don't look back.

I like to think so. I consider you to be one of them. dmallord is another. You love to troll but there is no denying that you know what you're talking about.

It really is addicting, not gonna lie. I don't know what about it is so appealing. Is it the topics? Is it the people? Is it the fact that I've seen many of these people posting here for years? Is it a well crafted snarky insult? The PB has all that and more. I read it as much for entertainment as I do to see people's opinions on current events.

Now, about that tricky little word “you.”

English doesn’t do us any favors here. Singular and plural you look exactly the same, which makes things... interpretively flexible.

So:
If that first paragraph uses singular “you,” then I gather Lance is being praised for his insight—and I’m flattered to be added to that list. Thanks! [Maybe not grouped with Lance, though.]

But if “you” remains singular, then the bit about loving to troll and still knowing what you’re talking about? Also Lance. [Glad I’m not in that clause.]

If, however, it’s a plural “you,” then I’m being looped into both the compliment and the trolling habit—and well, I may have to register a formal objection.

This, my friends, is how the first and second War of the Words began: over the ambiguous, weaponized "you."

So confusing, but funny 😆

My bad. I should've worded it better. I was addressing Lance in that post. Your name only applies to the compliment, not the love of trolling.

Well, it originates from a time when students had to study English and diagram sentences in high school until they mastered every aspect of grammar. One could wake up in the morning having parsed sentences in one's dreams all night. [almost] The finesse of singular and plural was part of those studies. You were taught to spot the confusion and detangle the meanings of those.

That and spending an inordinate amount of time attempting to learn a second language and repeating that high school knowledge level in a foreign language school. [not mastered, but had the basics again]
