It is 80 years since we were liberated from the Nazis. A bit of a different thing to celebrate.

You have peafowl in your garden, too?!

Aren't they magnificent? We have a wild flock that live in the oak grove. I love my glitter chickens

Yes. That's a much more important event to remember. I didn't realize that's what you were referencing.

We celebrate it by lighting candles in the windowsills, a way of showing that we did not have to block the light every night from the windows.

Our silent and very symbolic way of showing that we lived.

Yup! A bloody silly, noisy.. oddly curious and tame enough so that I can hand-feed him, "wild" (there is nothing wild about my fancy feathered dinosaur bird, he is too comfortable in my garden! ) Peacock.

He is kinda funny! And, he keeps the garden free of snails!!

You have a whole wild flock, gosh.. they can be sooooo noisy!! But, pretty and funny.

A very simple way to show life and resilience, lighting a candle in that windowsill, for 5 years the Danes had to meticulously hang light blocking curtains, staying indoor.. Being occupied by the Nazis.

Now, we remember by still lighting our candles, not closing the curtains, but continuing living and living well.

Jeg følger også traditionen og har sat lys i vinduet. Det er en særlig dag, og jeg markere den når jeg er hjemme.
Jeg har siden jeg var teenager altid været interesseret i hvad der skete i Danmark under krigen, og har stor respekt for dem der kæmpede i modstandsbevægelsen.

Dem der ikke lærer af historien, er dømt til at gentage den.
Det er jeg ikke i tvivl om at der er meget rigtigt i.
Jeg ved ikke om min familie var med i modstandsbevægelsen under krigen, men jeg håber de hjalp hvor de kunne! Det var flot at din familie hjalp
