The 50 Plus Cafe, Pub, All-Nite Greasy Spoon and Dive Bar

Cookies for breakfast! 🤯🤯 I love that idea! One of the markets has cherries on sale. I bought the limit, 6 lbs. They're California cherries; good, but not as good as ours, IMHO. I will still probably eat some but bake with the rest. 🍒🍒

Now, I wonder if I can coax that recipe from you? 💞😘
I will post here later. I’m still drinking my coffee.

"Deciding when to observe holidays isn’t always an exact science. George Washington wasn’t born on the third Monday of February, for example. Memorial Day’s precise date on the calendar shifts from year to year (it’s always the final Monday of May, in case you’d forgotten), but at least the reasoning behind it is sound: The late spring date was chosen because it was when flowers would be in full bloom. Since adorning the graves of fallen soldiers with wreaths was once the most important part of the holiday, it’s difficult to imagine Memorial Day taking place at another time of year — especially considering that it was first celebrated in the 1860s, when floristry wasn’t quite as commercially developed as it is today.

Certain aspects of the holiday’s origins are murky, but we know that in the wake of the Civil War, many different communities around the country decorated the graves of dead soldiers with blossoms and said prayers. In 1868, General John A. Logan, who led an organization for Northern Civil War veterans, chose May 30 “for the purpose of strewing with flowers, or otherwise decorating the graves of comrades who died in defense of their country during the late rebellion, and whose bodies now lie in almost every city, village and hamlet churchyard in the land.” Originally set aside specifically for the Civil War, Memorial Day came to encompass all military casualties during World War I. And while initially it was celebrated on a state and community-wide basis, it became an official federal holiday in 1971."

My family has a military service history dating back to the Civil War. My wife’s side has a rich history also. We all came home, except one. I’m remembering all, but especially my great uncle.

Lost over Saint Nazaire France after piloting his B-17 on a bombing run on Nazi sub pens. The last known contact from a sister ship had two engines knocked out and a flight of FW-190’s attacking as the plane straggled. Plane and crew listed as MIA. Most likely crashed into the Atlantic.

I finished Masters of The Air - Donald Miller, this past winter. It specifically talks about this mission on 23 Nov 42. The Luftwaffe changed their tactics to head on attacks because the B-17’s were so well armored…except for the nose guns. Once the new tactic was employed, they started inflicting heavy losses on the fortresses. Unfortunately, one of those was my uncles plane.

May we never forget those that gave all.

We have holiday dates of convenience. Easter is determined by some lunar calendar if I recall directly. Christmas is Dec. 25 "because the Church chose this date in the 4th century as the date of Jesus's birth, and it coincided with a Roman pagan festival celebrating the winter solstice".

Morning. Hope everyone slept well. Sounds like a busy day for most.
Quick catch up then...
Hi all....lots of visiting today with my mom's brother and sister.... ate too much but there is always tomorrow
🫂 sounds lovely- food to feed the soul and the body ❤️

Oooh, yes please 😁
Hello from sea, all you wonderful Spooners!!!
I caught a brief bit of wifi and hope everyone is doing well! 💖
👋 Hello! Good to hear from you! How goes it this tour?
(Shift? Tour? What do you call it?)
Um... have we chosen an interview committee for the cabana boy? 🤔 Just asking! 😆😅🤣
Yes, Lili... you can be on the committee 😆
You're doing it wrong, Likes! What if you get full before you get to the most liked foods?!? I say reverse your order! Eat dessert first. Eat least liked if there's room. 😆😆
 hmm, may need to reconsider this whole "responsible eating" thing 😆
The offer is still open to clean my house! I'll even provide the French maid's outfit! 🤭🤭
Wha... did you hire a Cabana Boy already? 🤣 😂 🤣
*puts my name on the list for house cleaning*
Deciding when to observe holidays isn’t always an exact science.
Thank you for this article. Love reading about these sorts of things. 🥰

Such an amazing legacy, HDH. You've spoken of your great uncle before. I think of him now, too, when I read or watch anything about the pilots from that war. ❤️
I did volunteer work
Thank you, Rj. Many organizations rely on their volunteers. Vital work! 🤗
I am feeling a touch stressed
Deep breath. You got this! Carpe diem, Miss K!! 🫂 ❤️

Yay! The work week is done.

Wanted to do outdoorsy stuff this week but the rain is not cooperating. I will prolly take the girls to the local library just to get out of the house.

Went to my brother's after work yesterday and got the metal detector and more importantly his compound bow and a target. The detector for fun down at the creek and the bow in the backyard. My bow is the only one I can dial down for the girls to use so I wanted to overhaul my brother's and use it alongside the girls. He cannot draw his anymore but still uses his recurve.

Respect goes out to those that the holiday is observed for.
