Rep. Greg Steube (R-Fla.) introduced a bill Thursday to rename the Washington, D.C., subway system after President Trump and his MAGA slogan.
The Make Autorail Great Again Act would withhold federal funding to the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority, known as WMATA, until it rebrands as the Washington Metropolitan Authority for Greater Access, or WMAGA — a similar acronym to the Make America Great Again slogan — and renames the Metrorail the Trump Train.
They're smart to play to the child's ego but their lack of a spine will be remembered.MAGA politicians are weird children desperate to get Donnie’s approval. These are the super-beta wimps that MAGA sheep vote for.
Republican introduces bill to rename DC Metro the ‘Trump Train,’ ‘WMAGA’
In the 9th Circuit panel's ruling, Senior Judge William A. Fletcher (who was appointed by President Bill Clinton) agreed that the initial executive order that authorized the mass "restructuring" of federal agencies violated the separation of powers and illegally bypassed Congress' authority over how federal agencies are staffed. Fletcher notably wrote that Musk's quasi-agency has no legitimate power.
"As Defendants concede, OMB [Office of Management and Budget] and OPM [Office of Personnel Management] have only supervisory authority over the other federal agencies," Fletcher wrote. "DOGE has no statutory authority whatsoever. We therefore agree with the district court that these organizations’ actions directing other federal agencies to engage in restructuring and large-scale RIFs were [illegally carried out beyond legal powers]."
In Missouri, the 2025 legislative session was dominated by Republican lawmakers trying to reverse two major measures that voters had put on the ballot and approved just months before; one made abortion in the state legal again, while the other created an employee sick leave requirement.
GOP lawmakers in Alaska and Nebraska also have moved to roll back sick leave benefits that voters approved last year, while legislators in Arizona are pushing new restrictions on abortion access, despite voters six months ago approving protections.
At the same time, Republican leaders in Florida, Utah, Montana, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Arizona, Ohio, North Dakota and South Dakotahave approved efforts to restrict citizen-led ballot initiatives or are considering measures to do so, essentially trying to make it harder for voters to change laws outside legislatures.
