The 50 Plus Cafe, Pub, All-Nite Greasy Spoon and Dive Bar

I've been out for almost two months now. I'm a Myers kind of guy. Always on the look out for new ones tho.

I have a left over bottle of Bumbu reserve that I think is atrocious. It's way too sweet and I don't know what the spices are but... Yuck. It tastes like overdone bathtub punch at a frat house party that's trying to hard. Anyone passing through is welcome to it.

I use to love watching Flip. If I could retire right now with unlimited funds, I would spend the rest of my days alternating the deep channels off shore trolling for sailfish, casting around flotsam for Mahi, and poling the flats in the Keys. Sandy beach bonfires watching the sun go down while the catch of the day slowly drips to a perfect cook next to the fire and a large ice cold rum drink to wash it down. Paradise!

If I can find Frigate, it will be my next purchase. I can barely find Myers here. I have to drive an hour to buy it. I've never heard of Papas Pillar so I'll be on the look out for it as well. Keep the recos coming too.
Flip is living the dream for sure! His back story is one of those…how’d he do that type of gigs. Grew up in “Mi-am-a” as he says the old timers called it, graduated college and put on a suit. Did that for a couple of years then stumbled on some opportunities to make money doing what he loved…fishing. He never “worked” again! Great humble soul who loves the outdoors and sharing the experience. His videos raised the bar on that genre of TeeVee and arguably launched a slew of other guide/outdoor careers.

I don’t think I’ve ever heard of Myers, then again, I’ve only recently jumped on the dark rum bandwagon. I’ll definitely look around for it. Frigate and Pilar can be ordered online. AS of this second, Frigate can only be purchased in Fl, Al, Ga, SC, and finally NC! Our local ABC only carries the 8yr old though…interesting you say you can’t find your Myers? I asked the gal if they had the 15 and she said they haven’t been getting much dark rums? Wonder if it’s all connected…

Got my free day at home yesterday and just an airline off to rainy BeanTown. Sit there tonight probably. At least I’ll get some good clam chowder. Have a great day everyone! Some Badlands MZ…

I've yet to develop a taste for straight rum, but will have it on occasion in a mixed drink. I tend to stick to bourbon or scotch when I need a belt.
Find you a little nip of dark rum. I was firmly in your camp…nothing but bourbon or scotch’s. Then a friend talked me into buying some Barbencourt Haitian Dark rum, 18 yr. I’m now a fan! I usually put one big ice cube in and sip.

The Frigate and Papa’s Pilar are both sipping types also. I’ve never mixed them.

Great, that's all I need, another alcohol hobby lol.

Seems they originated around Galloway and Glasgow.
Yer people were about three hrs south of mine. We were from the Inner Hebrides around the Port Appin area. Considered the Highlands. Greylag could probably school us both on this. I’m guessing Galway was the port of call in Ireland for the settlers leaving Scotland to load provisions for the long journey?

I think I’ve relayed this before. The Shamrock&Thistle was a Celtic music show that NPR used to put out in the early aughts…it was run by Fiona Richie and she’d do some interviews. It was based out of Mathews, NC just outside of Charlotte. She had a prof from Glasgow and he was running the ridges in the Blue Ridge MT’s around NC, TN, and VA; studying country musics link to Celtic music.

He kept hearing a peculiar term, to him, Scotch-Irish? Locals around these parts referred to themselves as being Scotch-Irish.

He figured out that the boat would leave Scotland full of kilt wearing whiskey slugging lads and stop in Ireland to pick up shamrock’s in their hair lasses! 😂. Boy meets girl and both having strong cultural ties to their homeland, their offspring referred to themselves as Scotch-Irish!

Or so he says…good yarn notwithstanding! Seems kinda a no brainer to me.😂

Hoarder Kept Rare Chrysler Nobody Knew About. 70 Years Later, the Engine Fires Right Up

A rare car hunter went to the world's end in search of automobiles that are worthwhile. He met an older gentleman who told him he had a rare Chrysler Imperial in his barn. He knew they all said that, but went to check it out anyway. It turned out that it was the seventh car of an ultra-exclusive series of only six documented examples. Nobody even knew this one existed. The registries missed this one car. So, meet number seven.

I did fall asleep within about a half hour. 25mg, just enough to take the edge off. Also worked on staking out the new garden fence, so a lot of allergens were in the mix. And maybe, just a little, bedtime cardio an hour before...
That’s good. Try not to rely on it too much though, frequently use has been tied to dementia.

Our ABC in Palatka was awesome when we lived there. Nothing like it here but we don't live that far away from AL. Maybe 40 min tops. Finding a decent store that carries them might still be a trick.

We did it!

We actually did it!

We went to a picnic at the reservoir!

I was nice. Lots of people for a weekday tho. I guess with the holiday weekend it filled up fast.

We didn't stay long but we walked along in knee deep water with the little one and pointed out the minnows. I'm sure by Saturday it will be overflowing with people, music and swimmers.

Bottom line we had fun and it was a little reset too.

So, an indigo bunting, a gold finch, and a purple finch flew into a feeder for a bite to eat.

And I said holy shit! That's a lot of color!

Haven't had an indigo bunting here before. He's been hanging around with all the goldfinch males. It's probably like guys at the corner bar when their wives are at home holding down the fort! 😂

I was in Enterprise (the Boll Weevil statue! 🤣), well, Ft Rucker for a bit. Loved the UCLA (Unknown Corner of Lower Alabama) when I was there, but damn it was hot! You should be able to find one of those jugs around those parts.

Nighty Nighty all. Got an early show manana.
