Oh look. Oklahoma attention whore and noted transphobe Ryan Walters, the state supernintendo of schools, is out huntin' headlines again.

Somehow overlooked and not elevated to a high Education position in the Second Reign Of Terror (Wrestling promoter Vince McMahon bought the Sec of Ed position for his wife), Walters attempts to continually burnish his Trump bonafides by dusting off the ole Christian Creationism playbook and issuing orders to "teach the controversy".

If they did this in a fair, reasonable and correct way I wouldn't be opposed to it.

They could say, for example, "During the 2020 election, many disputed the outcome and claimed that the Democrats "Stole" the election. Thousands descended on the capitol during the ballot certification to protest the outcome. However, detailed investigations ultimately proved that the accusations of cheating were baseless and unfounded, and no widespread fraud took place."

This is a fair, unbiased, factual and historically accurate description of what took place during the 2020 election. It does not elaborate on the violence that occurred during the capitol protest, only that a protest happened. And, the italic sentence is key- it states the unequivocal fact that subsequent investigations proved that no widespread fraud took place. This is a fair, reasonable, unbiased and historically accurate description of that election, and I don't think many people would take issue with this account being taught in history or government classes. Yes, it is true that there were accusations of fraud and cheating. Yes, it is also true that these accusations were investigated and subsequently debunked. All of this is utterly true.

If, however, the Oklahoma schools are refusing to admit the part of the investigations subsequently debunking the fraud allegations, then they are failing to do their job of teaching true accurate history and doing a grave disservice to the students. It is just as bad as teaching that the Holocaust was a myth, or that the Jews were responsible for the 9-11 attacks, in my opinion (And I've heard both of these "opinions" spewed by the usual suspects on this board.)
