Energy and Commerce Committee approves rollbacks for Biden energy programs

The GOP megabill would claw back unspent funds from Democrats’ climate law and speed permitting for fossil fuel projects.

The House Energy and Commerce Committee on Tuesday night approved key portions of the GOP megabill central to President Donald Trump’s domestic agenda, clawing back billions of dollars in unspent funds from the Democrats’ 2022 climate law and speeding up permitting for fossil fuel projects.

The energy and environment subtitles of the panel’s draft bill represent just a small fraction of the spending cuts Energy and Commerce expects to achieve through its contribution to the Republican party-line package, most of which will come from highly controversial changes to Medicaid.

But Democrats still fiercely pushed back on the Republican energy provisions they said would raise energy prices by repealing popular Inflation Reduction Act programs and allow highly polluting industries to skip portions of the federal permitting process.

“We’re considering a reconciliation bill that picks winners and losers, and elevates expensive, outdated and inefficient sources like coal over cheap, American-made energy like solar, wind and storage,” said Rep. Scott Peters (D-Calif.).

It's about time this phoniness was apprehended.

Another climate thread.

Neat.

How many of these threads do you need before.you feel heard?

Climate change deserves funding

Worth noting that the Trump administration has rolled back regulations allowing coal plants to dump ash into rivers and streams.

The same rivers and streams that people swim in, boat on and sometimes get their drinking water from

That won't save the coal industry. It is dying just because natural gas is cheaper.

Fear Porn.

How many coal plants that have gone To Clean power, are suddenly going to reverse course and go against the EPA’s 2015 rules?

Here’s a list of Coal fired plants …the last Mega plant built was 2013…There are NO planned coal fired plants built or planned after ‘22.

the coal ash rules that were rolled back in 2016?

Hint: they never implemented them fully
Yes they did. Duke energy was fined over $1 M…our local plant had to convert (a good thing) post ‘16. No new coal plants are being built and even if they were they’d have to conform to standards. The updated rules of ‘24 went back and included most of the plants that were excluded from ‘15…so nothing was “rolled back”.

Again. Typical fear porn.

They were fined because why?

Lol

Lol
They were fined because they had an ash spill. It’s been illegal to dump hazardous waste for much longer than your timeline. The point being, you’re trying to fear monger. These plants aren’t going to suddenly send ash your way. FFS man…

They were fined because they didn't adhere to the regulations.

I'm not fear mongering, dipshit. They haven't ever adhered to the regulations.....they drag their feet until the next administration.

They're dumping shit into your backyard

Are you really this dense or do you just like to argue? They were fined because of a spill. Not because they did it intentionally. FFS read what the EPA says about it. An underground line failed. Duke is also retiring their old coal fired plants and moving to clean energy natural gas plants. So you don’t know what the fuck you’re talking about but that’s par for the course.

They were fines because they violated the regulations.

You seem to ignore that for some reason.

Can you READ! They didn’t intentionally violate the regs. They were fined because they couldn’t contain the spill. Now you can argue that a 45 yr old underground line should have been maintained better but you can’t sit there and say it was done intentionally.

You are ignoring that the company in question paid the fine, and has done the right thing and moved to modern eco-friendly plants…that generate more Mega Watts in the offing.

Eco Fear Porn. The left has been pedaling this shit for years.

I get that you believe they didn't intentionally violate the regulations.

They didn't have any intention of adhering to them.

The only thing that matters to me is that they dumped this shit into our rivers initially. Someone literally has to tell them that this was a bad thing.

You're arguing semantics.

God damn you’re a fucking moron. Again…read what the EPA says.

They’ve had to “adhere” since 1974. Do you enjoy being in the dark?

US companies have a long history of environmental stewardship … rivers that catch on fire, air pollution strong enough to etch glass, underground aquifers polluted by dumped chemicals, pesticides that accumulate throughout the food chain.

MAGA sheep think none of that should be regulated. 😆
