The 50 Plus Cafe, Pub, All-Nite Greasy Spoon and Dive Bar

Caught up early again tonight!

I'm so tired! I had gym today; my trainer really made me WORK! Then I had some errands to run afterwards. 😩

It's cold and overcast again tonight. No chance to see the full moon tonight. I hope wherever you are, you get a glimpse! 💞✨💖

Here's a picture I took previously.

Ours was orange as it rose over the hill… gorgeous.

And well done for getting to the gym @Lilianna23

Good morning all. I woke at 430 am due to sinus pressure again. I have done everything to prevent it except sleep upright in a chair. A recliner may be in my future 🤣.

Speaking of dentist, I have my regular teeth cleaning and hope for no issues. Later I have a massage. Now some like Lilli, have a personal trainer, whereas I prefer the strong hands of a woman masseuse. 😉

Have a great day.

Spring is here, but it be a few days before the apples and cherries pop. Maples and other trees are starting to show green now.
Still haven't had to mow the lawn yet, but it's getting close. Supposed to hit 50 by the end of the week, so everything might slow down again.

Good morning to all!
It’s hell for allergy sufferers but I think it’s quite a sight to see the tree leaves sprouting. Hope the rain keeps the allergens down some.

Happy humping day dive bar devotees. As it's Wednesday, let's listen to one of the great bands in music history.
A most excellent song. A most excellent band! One of my favorites. I actually like “My Perfect Cousin” better but this song certainly does not suck!

We’re all just trying to get our teenage kicks!

On the bus to NYC today. Been heads down all week. It feels like it should be Thursday or Friday but it ain’t.

My joke is that I’m on the bus to NYC flying into Newark airport (which is basically shut down), via route 80 (closed in two places due to sinkholes) on a NJ Transit train which is going to literally go on strike literally any minute today….

But I am on a bus and already halfway into the city.

Been heads down for work. It’s sure keeping me busy.

Last night I had dinner with my daughter. Was really nice to get some 1-1 time to really catch up. She is very excited that her 12u volleyball team made it to the national tournament in June. They’re quite good!

Thank you all for the wonderful replies to my tooth situation. The oral surgeon was recommending the root canal, and since the "experts" on here agree, I think that is the path I shall travel.
I am no dentist (although I do play one on tv), but glad you’re going this route. I have a broken tooth that’s completely dead that I have to get an implant for. Not looking forward to it…

First, you need better dirty secrets!

Now the boring bit. Managing people is one of the most difficult jobs there is because people are complex. A team is just a group of individuals working towards a common goal. To make a team function effectively you need to understand the real-life issues and personal motivations of the individuals. That means investing time in getting to know people and showing that you understand their issues. Sometimes it means being honest with someone that your company/department is unlikely to be able to meet their goals and helping them move on.

As for teambuilding exercises, my experience is that your best option is to periodically, no more than once a quarter, one of which is a Christmas party, pay for a night out of low level entertainment involving food and drink. Get them together for a couple of hours to let their hair down and then carry on. I attended numerous 'professional' teambuilding' events full of unimaginative ideas and slogans and never saw one that was better than showing co-workers that you understood their life/work balance and were honest with them.

Now, back to pics of peoples flowers ;)
I thought that was a juicy secret!

You are correct on all accounts. Being a manager is a tough, all encompassing and thankless task. At worst it can be like babysitting. At best tho it can be rewarding to see you team members grow, and see the team grow. Some teams operate like well oiled machines. I am on a small but really highly functioning team w a great boss.

Some mangers are not cut out for the task, some are marking time to retirement. They can create toxic environments.

I designed and ran our company’s leadership and management. Development training for about six years, and I got so burnt out on doing training classes, leadership assessments that really only 10-20% of people took seriously and worked on things and had strong development plans. 10-20% were totally checked out and just prisoners in a training class or taking an at work “vacation.” And the rest were somewhere in the middle.

I just didn’t see enough changes. Maybe it was me. I went into a business development role and haven’t looked back. I don’t miss my HR daze a bit.
