The 50 Plus Cafe, Pub, All-Nite Greasy Spoon and Dive Bar

So I’ve been seeing this electric wall calendar advertised on the TeeVee lately, and went shopping for you….

Couldn’t find the exact one, in fact I’m not even sure of the name, but found The Six Best on the interweb! Enjoy!

Heading home. It was a quick week out. I usually have a ton planned but realized I need to get a jacket for an upcoming wedding, some brandy glasses for my gift from my friend, an attachment to my Dremal tool to Shari those new pottings…the list goes on…I’ve procrastinated on getting our hotel rooms for the wedding and the tix for the trip to NM…oh boy🙃. SWhoMBO will not be pleased!😂.

St Augustine MZ for ye today…

You better get busy, H!

K+ and I can patch you up but we can't raise the dead if you run seriously afoul of SWMBO! That's waaaaaay above pur pay grade! 😆😅🤣

Here is my dirty secret. I used to be in HR and in learning and development. People would ask for team building all the time. I used to say yes, till I started saying no.

Because the issue is that managers don’t want to have tough conversations with single individuals and instead they think that “feel good team building” will help a working environment. What they need to understand that they need to effectively manage, set expectations and make a culture of candor for their teams.

No feels goody horseshit will change that.

So I changed my tune. They could have feel goody horseshit that won’t change anything, or they could change the way they managed. It’s really as simple as that.

You get the results you tolerate.

This is what I am no longer in HR.

End of sermon.

Have fun brewing, K!
I hated when everyone had to go through bullshit "team building" days just because the manager couldn't/wouldn't manage effectively. 🙄😤

Well my bosses boss was there and had a drink so I took it as ok to do
Good news...

Right? Sadly, I'd say at least 97% of all the managers I've ever had do the BS Team Building exercises.

Poll Question:

I have tooth that's been bothering me. It appears my two choices are going to be...

Root canal

or

Pull it and get an implant

Best choice?
What does your dentist or oral surgeon say? My 2 cents - if the tooth can be saved, go with root canal. If not, pull. The tooth socket has to heal before an implant can be placed so there will be a longer delay if the tooth is pulled.

Caught up early again tonight!

I'm so tired! I had gym today; my trainer really made me WORK! Then I had some errands to run afterwards. 😩

It's cold and overcast again tonight. No chance to see the full moon tonight. I hope wherever you are, you get a glimpse! 💞✨💖

Here's a picture I took previously.

First, you need better dirty secrets!

Now the boring bit. Managing people is one of the most difficult jobs there is because people are complex. A team is just a group of individuals working towards a common goal. To make a team function effectively you need to understand the real-life issues and personal motivations of the individuals. That means investing time in getting to know people and showing that you understand their issues. Sometimes it means being honest with someone that your company/department is unlikely to be able to meet their goals and helping them move on.

As for teambuilding exercises, my experience is that your best option is to periodically, no more than once a quarter, one of which is a Christmas party, pay for a night out of low level entertainment involving food and drink. Get them together for a couple of hours to let their hair down and then carry on. I attended numerous 'professional' teambuilding' events full of unimaginative ideas and slogans and never saw one that was better than showing co-workers that you understood their life/work balance and were honest with them.

Now, back to pics of peoples flowers ;)

I agree entirely… a night out and a few drinks works wonders. I also used to do “fish and chip Friday.” One o clock every week we just got a big order in and all sat in the boardroom and chatted about anything not work related! Best team building ever!
