DC Circuit Rules For Trump In VOA Case

Again, why are they doing this? It's not going to make any difference in the budget.

Because congress only authorized a set number of employees for VOA and the dept has become bloated and therefore exceeds that amount in operating costs, payroll, and benefits.

Empire building bloat. Private enterprises go through purges routinely.

If they really want to save money, they should start with the Defense Department, and not even look at anything else until all the waste and bloat there has been thoroughly trimmed.

FYI, Trump's proposed budget cuts DD spending.

Trump's budget proposes slashing health, education and clean energy programs while talking up bigger military

The largely symbolic budget blueprint sent to Congress also calls for boosting spending on Trump's other priorities, like border security and a "MAHA" initiative on healthy living.

Overall, Vought said the proposal contains a 23% cut ($163 billion) in discretionary funding,
and a 13% increase in military spending after including the $150 billion Republicans are eying in a separate bill.

Nope. There will be some bizarre deflection about how he said, "DD" but the article says, "military" and something about a separate bill.

Why do they want to cut VOA, of all things?!
It’s outdated. It’s been taken over by radicals. It suffocated under its own mission creep.

If you really want to understand (I doubt you do), ask yourself…what was the original mission of VOA? Then ask yourself, has that mission continued into the twenty first century?

The original mission was anti-Nazi. Then anti-Soviet. Post-Cold-War, I guess it's just about puffing the American brand. But Congress kept funding it for some reason that seemed good to them. And not with much -- it can't hardly matter at all in the federal budget.

Rule 65: (c) Security. The court may issue a preliminary injunction or a temporary restraining order only if the movant gives security in an amount that the court considers proper to pay the costs and damages sustained by any party found to have been wrongfully enjoined or restrained.

The court has the discretion to set it at zero.
but....but...that would mean that both of our self-professed "MAGA Legal Experts" were completely ignorant of federal rules and procedures!

My goodness. Those two must feel terrible about making such a silly mistake.

Post-Cold War:

With the breakup of the Soviet bloc in Eastern Europe, VOA added many additional language services to reach those areas. This decade was marked by the additions of services in Standard Tibetan, Kurdish (to Iran and Iraq), Serbo-Croatian (Croatian, Serbian, Bosnian), Macedonian, and Rwanda-Rundi.[63][64]

In 1993, the Clinton administration advised cutting funding for Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, as it believed post-Cold War information and influence was not needed in Europe. This plan was not well received, and US President Bill Clinton then proposed the compromise of the International Broadcasting Act, which he signed into law in 1994. This law established the International Broadcasting Bureau as a part of the United States Information Agency (USIA), and established the Broadcasting Board of Governors (BBG) with oversight authority, which took control from the Board for International Broadcasters which previously had overseen funding for RFE/RL.[65] In 1998, the Foreign Affairs Reform and Restructuring Act was signed into law, and mandated that the BBG become an independent federal agency as of October 1, 1999. This act also abolished the USIA, and merged most of its functions into those of the State Department.[66]

The Arabic Service was abolished in 2002 and replaced by a new radio service, called the Middle East Radio Network or Radio Sawa, with an initial budget of $22 million. Radio Sawa offered mostly Western and Middle Eastern popular songs with periodic brief news bulletins. It then expanded to television with Alhurra in February 2004 (and later to various social media and websites).[67] In May 2004, the US government's international English language TV service Worldnet, became part of VOA as "VOA TV".

As part of an effort to allocate resources to broadcasts in the Muslim world,[68][69] radio programs in Russian, Hindi, Ukrainian, Serbian, Macedonian and Bosnian ended in 2008.[68][69] In September 2010, VOA began radio broadcasts in Sudan. As U.S. interests in South Sudan grew, there was a desire to provide people with free information.[70] In 2013, budget cuts led VOA to end foreign-language transmissions on shortwave and medium wave to Albania, Georgia, Iran, and Latin America, as well as English-language broadcasts to the Middle East and Afghanistan.[71] Then, in 2014, most of its English-language transmissions to Asia were cut,[72] as well as shortwave transmissions in Azerbaijani, Bengali, Khmer, Kurdish, Lao, Uzbek, and Greek.[72][73][74]

You didn’t answer the second part of the question. It DOES matter.

I’ll also ask you this…what happened to put VOA on its current arc? Who dismantled the gov oversight. Therein lies the answer to your question….or the question you should be asking…
