Feedback on new policy announcement.

There isn't another site like this that I've found that allows people to explore their kinks and creativity in the same way, and I'll be gutted to lose that outlet. But equally, I (and I suspect most others) don't have the time, ability or inclination to put together an alternative site...

This! Exactly this! There is no other site like this that I know of. Other sites host photos, art, audios, but how many are safe and respectful for women? I too would feel gutted to lose my outlet for expression, my connection to like minded people, my sense of community.

But just because there is no other site that does what Lit currently does, that doesn't mean the onus is on Laurel & Manu to keep providing that outlet.

It's free to us because we provide eyeballs for the cam entertainer banner ads that the site owners make money from. The site owners will lose some money if they drive away artists, consensual exhibitionists, and the people who enjoy that content. I don't have the google analytics data to see what percentage of Lit users visit what section but I'm guessing the loss would be not negligible.

edit: Someone correct me if the banner money doesn't go to the site owners. Maybe the hosting service gets it all. Anyone know?

edit 2: I know the banner ads only appears in some sections. I'm guessing artists who leave might stop visiting any Lit section. I might do so if I lose my outlet for photography. It would be too sad for me to visit and be reminded of what was lost.

Side note: Some cam entertainers perform acts that artists won't be allowed to depict on Lit anymore (showing genitals, masturbation, use of sex toys). But the site owners can still make money from hosting such ads. Just saying that is not a good look.

I personally would be happy to donate to Lit if the issue is financial. I would be happy to have subscriber accounts that are ad free. I have done that for other websites for years. Have even been a volunteer mod on a website, categorizing and cleaning up content, responding to user requests for help. I'm thinking this is about Gileadean laws (as you've said) and not finances nor lack of volunteer mods (although I'm sure more mods would be welcome).

My apologies then, I stand corrected about that. That has not been my experience but I believe you about yours. However, I think a reasonable solution would be to confine such images to certain subforums and enforce that separation. If that's too much work, ask for more mod volunteers.

And yes, I too think this absolutely is about the US turning into Gilead. It's tragifarcical. Red States are the biggest consumers of porn while at the same time banning and censoring sexual expression.

I wonder if it's possible for the site owners to host on a non-US server? Would they then still be subject to Gilead laws?

There are still states like California that have no restrictions on legal porn sites. Maybe they can make someone from California a mod on here.

Also if you know how to use a VPN you can still use this site in a red state.

What does make sense, after thinking this over quite a bit, is that what sets Literotica apart from all the other sites out there is the massive repository of erotic stories. The cash-generating banners are only on that side of the site. This is still pretty much a "mom and pop" business, run by @Manu & @Laurel and they may simply be tired of the headaches of managing the forums. If nudity threatens to derail the entire enterprise, even if it seems like an unrealistic problem to us, they may simply be tired of dealing with it. "Let them go post their nudes elsewhere. It's not what we're about."

I'm not saying I agree with it, or that I am happy about it. Just that it makes sense.

Unfortunately i have noticed a lot of stories getting deleted lately. A few of my favorite stories that have been there for years are no longer on the site.

Honestly, I didn't realise that was there. Thank you. I don't visit the stories side of the site as reading erotica just isn't my thing...

I do, however, believe this is a done deal now though

Correct. The law doesn't apply to adult nude images. However some red states have banned and/or locked porn sites. It's possible some of the mods/site owners live in one of those states which is maybe why they are doing this new policy of banning adult images.

Thanks! I didn't know that was available, although it seems targeted at the story side of the site.

This is what I said.
I would be very sorry to have all nude art prohibited from the forums. The only reason for the negative feedback that I saw was that people don't want nudity to be visible over their shoulders. People have suggested a howt of methods for letting people control what others see over their shoulders.

I'm guessing that this change is more in response to legal harassment from the new repressive culture that's in power. I hope you can resist.

The mods have said that they don't know how it will be actioned.

So if you are privvy to more info than the rest of us, then please feel free to share...

Details that haven't been published include:

What counts as nudity? Are we talking genital areas only? Will nipples count as nudity? If they do will that be equally applied to both male and female?

Does posting pics of yourself in skimpy underwear in the same way the cam girls are dressed in the ads on site count as nudity?

Will you be able to host nude pics elsewhere and post the links as long as they don't automatically display on the thread or in the story?

Will there be any exemptions for non photographic art? If so, why?

Every mod without exception who has posted on here with an opinion has said either that they will be glad to see the back of nude pics, or that they are the biggest cause of issues on the site (in the region of 90%).

With that in mind, I notice you've had a post removed from this thread for breaking one of the big rules about posting nudes...
