Trump is threatening to impose 25% tariffs on any country that buys oil or gas from Venezuela -- a country Trump has accused of "sending" criminals and gang members to the U.S. (Which is nonsense -- nobody is sending immigrants here; no government has a Department of Emigration).

This, even though the U.S. itself is the second-biggest buyer of Venezuelan crude. (China is the biggest.)

Seems to be just more stupidity -- only I wonder if it might portend something worse. Marco Rubio is on record as wanting to invade Venezuela, do a regime change, put an end to their "Bolivarian Revolution" -- and he's Secretary of State now.

He's desperately trying to give his cultists something to distract them from the real story: That an imminent military attack with all the details is unclassified information.

Therefore plans to invade Venezuela will be unclassified.

And Venezuela is added to the list of countries to be invaded by the Party of 'No New Wars' (and Bribery & Corruption & Hypocrisy).

Of course, they could justify an invasion, saying the purpose is to install Venezuela's real, legitimate president -- certainly some things about the last election were iffy.

Trump ended oil purchases from Venezuela.

We aren't going to invade Venezuela. We could blockade it, however. I don't see that happening on the near-term horizon.

Trump ended oil purchases from Venezuela.
Not yet.

The U.S. extended Chevron’s wind-down of oil exports from Venezuela by two months on Monday, after President Donald Trump said that any country buying oil or gas from Venezuela will pay a 25% tariff on any trades made with the United States.

In an expected move, the Trump administration extended until May 27 the wind-down of a license that the U.S. had granted to Chevron since 2022 to operate in sanctioned Venezuela and export its oil. Chevron is only permitted to export that oil to the United States.

So, it does take time to wind the process down.

Little Marco is way over his head being Secretary of State.
