Perfect Albums

Frightened Rabbit. So many great albums but find Midnight Organ Fight to be perfect. Did FR and Scott pilgrimage when I was in Scotland a year or so ago. Sucks he ended up dying just like this song said he would.

The song challenge today had me pull up this gem of an album. Perfect in very way.

Altho I didn’t really get it the first few times I heard it. In fact I didn’t like it at first.

It's one of the darkest of the Summer Of Love-adjacent albums. Weird contrast between the soupy Mantovani strings and cod-mariachi horns arrangements then the (bad but garage-cool) guitar wigouts, and Arthur's heart of darkness over it all.

It's probably not surprising it isn't better known; it's not what you'd call easy listening. But this song never fails to lift my spirits.

Pearl Jam - No Code
Margot and the Nuclear So and Sos - The Dust of Retreat
Regina Spektor - Far

Damn almost forgot to keep up with this thread.

Really big fan of Evan Dando and the Lemonheads. I have to say It’s A Shame About Ray is perfect from start to finish. So catchy and smartass and fucking brilliant. Plus his vocals are outstanding. You also get Juliana Hatfield on bass and backing vocals. I believe the cover of Mrs Robinson was added later when it blew up internationally and not on original version. Here is Rudderless as song and also when Evan was likely doped up on Regis and Kathy Lee.

Fucking beat version of Outdoor Type which is actually a cover by Australian named Tom Morgan of Smudge. I have original vinyl somewhere.

When does that date from?

Lasting regret of my life I never went to see Arthur Lee when he played a festival in Bristol sometime early-mid 90s, although I suspect it wouldn't have been much good and not Love.
Check out the Love Forever Changes Comcert. It’s is amazing and gave me chills.

I’ve never seen them before either, missed my chance when I was in the army…

But this life album is fucking amazing.

Poppy, indie punk, Paisley underground ish.

Although this band had a pretty culty following, I don’t know one person who likes this band other than me, but I’m putting this out there as a perfect album. Cuz it is.

Amazing lyrics.

The Leaving Trains - Kill Tunes 1986

She’s looking at you

A drunker version of you

Vicki

whole album - see for yourself

This is a classic. I bought this album over 50 years ago. Sh1t I’m really that old.

Alice Cooper's 'Killer' is another perfect album. From the jarring first notes of Under My Wheels to the last moment of the song Killer (where they traditionally hanged Alice) it's fully cohesive and high energy - with large kudos to producer Glyn Johns.

You've got:
Under My Wheels
Be My Lover
Halo of Flies
Desperado (the 'ballad')

You Drive Me Nervous
Yeah, Yeah, Yeah (probably the weakest tune, but it's still great)
Dead Babies (say what you will, but those little ankle biters can't take things off the shelf, can they? LOL)
Killer

Fucking awesome, perfect album!

Ones that pop to mind are
Once by Nightwish
Blizzard of Ozz - by Ozzy
Rio by Duran Duran
Rumours by Fleetwood Mac
Dark Passion Play by Nightwish
Thriller by Michael Jackson
Purple Rain by Prince
I'm sure I'll come up with some more.

I’d put this album up against any other punk rock album. Defined the horror punk genre to a T. I posted hate breeders on the daily music challenge thread. It’s catchy as fuck, so I listened to the whole album while I was working today.

Funny thing- I am not a huge fan of the Misfits.

It’s a prefect album.

Misfits - Walk Among Us
20 eyes

I Turned Into a Martian

Astro Zombies

And the best for last - Hate Breeders

Violent Femmes - Violent Femmes
Blood On The Tracks - Bob Dylan
Purple Rain - Prince
Yellow Moon - Neville Brothers
Koko Taylor - Koko Taylor

(Sorry, I couldn't stop.)

Really hard to pick one Camera Obscura album because they are all pretty damn great but Maudlin Career is just perfect. I will also say they are one of more underrated bands and whenever I play their music around other people I always get asked who they are and am often met with surprise. Seems like a lot of people have heard of them but never taken time to listen but just fucking wonderful Scottish Pop.

Do compilations count?

The first Oi! Album is chock full of boot thudding, hand clapping, sing a long punk rock masterpieces. Cockney Rejects, Angelic Upstarts, 4-Skins, Cocksparrer and others. Great all the way thru.

Another compilation that’s awesome is Battke of The Garages, which was all second generation (early 80s) garage rock sounding a lot like the 60s real thing. The Vipers, The Slickee Boys, Chesterfield Kings, The Embarrassment, Deniz Tek and others.

I remember that it came with a score sheet so you could actually choose the winner of the battle of the bands and mail it back to Voxx/Bomp records.

Both are perfect albums.
