Trump vs Universities

Americans rank 36th in Literacy globally, so maybe they should shut down all US Universities with the Dept of Education.

Lol

Harward = Crooked tax free hedge fund with a university attached (when convenient) , otherwise a nest of jihad. Time to send the faculty to CECOT!

The amount of technology you have in your house is a result of Harvard getting payments from the government.

Bob Jones University and the SCOTUS opinion

Probably understand what we pay Harvard for and why.

And then figure out where our future tech will come from without Harvard (hint: starts with a CH)

Puppy Killer Noem threatens Harvard

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said late on Wednesday that Harvard would lose its ability to enrol foreign students if it did not meet demands the Trump administration demands to share information on some visa holders. The department’s secretary, Kristi Noem, also announced the termination of two DHS grants to Harvard totalling more than $2.7m.

Noem said she wrote a letter to the university demanding records on what she called the “illegal and violent activities” of Harvard’s foreign student visa holders by 30 April. “And if Harvard cannot verify it is in full compliance with its reporting requirements, the university will lose the privilege of enrolling foreign students,” she said in a statement.

The Authoritarian Administration is absolutely desperate to punish Harvard and seize control of the university after Harvard publicly told them to fuck off. 😆

Any self-respecting Treasury Secretary would resign rather have the Department be complicit in the weaponization of the IRS against a political adversary of the President

But Scott Bessent obviously has no self respect or he wouldn’t be working in the Clown Show to begin with.

Former Treasury Secretary Larry Summers said on Thursday that Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent should resign before he complies with President Trump’s directive for the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to revoke Harvard University’s tax-exempt status.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent considers himself "above the law". He made a "handshake deal" with Attorney General Pam Bondi and Elon Musk's frat boy tech bros to turn over EVERY SINGLE TAX RETURN that a naturalized American citizen has ever filed (FOR EVERY YEAR going back to WW2). Why, you ask? So the DOGE boys can root out any potential "tax fraud" which can be used to "invalidate" a naturalized American's citizenship and make them eligible for "summary deportation".

One fun scenario: Failing to list income from "illegal activities" can result in prison sentences (Al Capone the most famous case). Marijuana (also referred to as "pot", "reefer", "marihuana" and "muggles" according to the Feds) is still considered a Class 1 narcotic under federal law. THE most addictive drug out there, Oxycontin is Class 2. Anyway, if you live in a state where pot is decriminalized, and you sell the dreaded herb, you have to declare your profits as income or go to prison.

But if you DO declare the legal-in-your-state weed on your tax return(s) AND you are a naturalized citizen, under the powers invested in Orange Julius Caesar, you are a narcotics kingpin and your citizenship is forfeit.

Catch 22 at its finest. Making America White Again!

Oh and Secretary Bessent brushed aside the four or so laws about releasing confidential tax returns to anyone without a court order. "Treasury Secretary privilege" (sometimes known as "Billionaire's Privilige" supersedes pesky federal law.

That may be so, but the comparison is like telling me that we should thank the doctors in Dachau and Ravensbruck for advancing research in antibiotics.... or thanking the Nazis for the moon landing.... OOPS ;) they gave an "uber" Nazi US citizenship, medal in science and named an award after him....So you are right after all :D

What a f'in dumb take.
If you're going to even try and dare to make a Holocaust joke then it better be fucking great.
I looked through your post history and greatness is nowhere close within your reach and so now we have to read this mediocre, child like analogy.
Please, don't be confused when you read this, I'm not challenging you do to better - you can't.

There is always controversy.

Removing funding from universities will result in us losing leadership of technology in the world

All because people don't bend the knee

Normally a serious discussion is no longer possible as soon as some silly Nazi comparison is made. This one is so stupid that the discussant is clearly either very stupid or completely ignorant.
Actually, you shouldn't feed trolls with red herrings, but for the sake of completeness: the Nazis cruelly murdered a terribly high number of people and some of them were medical experiments. However, these had nothing to do with antibiotics.
To compare the scientists at today's universities with the Nazis is outrageous.
My request to the discussant: please think about what you write first, then think again, then write it, then read it again carefully and only then click on reply. Or not.

Okay, I'll play.

What, in your opinion, is the reason for removing tax-exempt status from Harvard university? Did they do something egregiously wrong that merits such a radical response?

The only reason I can ascertain, and I haven't spent a great deal of time of this, is that they refuse to adjust their hiring practices to conform with arbitrary "guidelines" from the new administration.

This, to me, would seem to be an extraordinarily harsh bad faith response by the federal government. Harvard has not run afoul of any laws passed by Congress, it is operating under all relevant legal guidelines.

Management by arbitrary executive government fiat would seem to me to be contrary to the United States Constitution.

Would you agree?

I know too little about the United States Constitution to answer that. To be honest, I don't give a damn about it either. However, if it allows every idiot to have weapons of war in their homes, it needs to be revised.
Now for the part I can answer: the reason they should pay taxes now is simply because 47 is a hateful, fume addicted shithead who is trying to destroy everything he can't control or doesn't understand, and that's a lot.

Let me add that you're approaching the question the wrong way round. You're looking to blame Harvard, not those who instigated the process. It makes sense to distinguish between the triggering and the moving cause of an event.

Fair enough.

However, if it allows every idiot to have weapons of war in their homes, it needs to be revised.
Red herring.

I agree that Trump has control issues. I also am assuming, as you seem to be doing as well, that he is threatening the removal of tax exempt status purely out of spite,

Let me add that you're approaching the question the wrong way round.
Oh really? This should be good....

You're looking to blame Harvard, not those who instigated the process. It makes sense to distinguish between the triggering and the moving cause of an event.
Oh darn. Ascription. How disappointing.
