Phones, other electronics exempt from new tariffs, Trump administration says
The announcement comes after Beijing responded to President Trump’s escalating trade war with a 125 percent tariff on all U.S. goods early Friday.
Orange Julius Caesar has blinked. Again.
Late Friday night a new imperial decree was issued:
All cell phones, computers and televisions made in China will be "temporarily" exempted from the escalating Chinese/American tariff wars.
This comes as a yuuuuge relief to Apple, who manufactures their iPhones in China and was looking at the reality of a $1000 iPhone now costing a potential $1700.
Days after Mango Mussolini crowing that "countries were lining up to kiss my ass and make a deal", reporters noticed one country had not: China. When questioned about this, Don Cheetolini said "oh, he's gotta call sooner or later....he can't afford not to".
Three days elapse.
No calls.
President Pissypants thunders and raises tariffs.
China promptly responds immediately and match punitive rates despite der Pumpkinhead Führer 's dire warning that countries may NOT raise tariff rates, only HE has the power to unilaterally raise punitive tariff rates.
His Majesty is clearly rattled that China is not responding as expected to his chaotic bullying.
Ergo, yet another "pause" to avoid the illusion of a "loss" and a subsequent loss of face.
Xi Jinping clearly knows who he is dealing with and more importantly, how to deal with toddler tantrums.
The usual Trump apologists will be along shortly to splutter the usual "4-D Chess!" and "Art Of The Deal!" sound byte cliches they rely on to preserve the illusion of Trump "winning".
