President Donald Trump has signed an executive order on Thursday directing the Smithsonian, a federal consortium of cultural and research institutions, to eliminate "divisive" and "anti-American" content from its exhibitions and restore "monuments, memorials, statues, markers" that have been removed from public spaces since 2020.
gotta keep the red-meat base confederates happy, ammirite?

The "Restoring Truth and Sanity to American History" order gives Vice President JD Vance the authority to determine what content is "improper" at the Smithsonian Institution. A fact sheet from the White House describes the order as opposed to "anti-American ideology."Since its establishment by Congress in 1846, the Smithsonian has operated as a public-private partnership and maintained editorial autonomy in its telling of the country's history. It encompasses museums and education and research centers, and within the past decade has evolved substantially with new divisions dedicated to diversity. The National Museum of the American Latino and American Women's History Museum are among the more recent additions to its portfolio.
Any major backlash amongst voters can be pushed off into vance's lap since trump has effectively washed his hands prior to the fubars. I, for one, am not against 'offensive' statues remaining on display so long as they are accompanied by the information regarding their creation, public placing&consequent removals, and the reasons for those, i.e context about racism, lies and, yannno, generally 'the truth'. I do not have faith in vance to make sure the actual truth is displayed.

Geez, with an order like that, Vance could just shut down the Latino and Women's museums entirely.

Can't figure you Americans and this Confederate flag fetish. Are those folks saying, "My great-great-grandpappy fought for wealthy plantation owners to be able to buy and sell human beings like barbarian conquerors and use their women to make mixed-race babies that they despise and YES, I'm so PROUD of the struggle for that heritage!"

It's like flying the Japanese imperial flag at Pearl Harbor, or a swastika over American graves at Normandy beach.

Next step: Demolishing the Martin Luther King memorial.
And I'm wondering how long this page is allowed to exist. It is in some places very woke in the sacred trilogy's eyes.

That has been going on since 1865. It's called the Lost Cause. See also Neo-Confederate.

Of course, when the Dukes of Hazzard painted a Cornfed flag on their car, and installed a novelty horn that plays "Dixie," all they were really saying was, "We ain't Yankees!"

YANKEE, n. In Europe, an American. In the Northern States of our Union, a New Englander. In the Southern States the word is unknown. (See DAMNYANK.)

They all imagine they're Clark Gable in Gone With The Wind, but then forget the devastating quote, "I think it's hard winning a war with words, gentlemen. . . . I'm saying very plainly that the Yankees are better equipped than we. . . . All we've got is cotton and slaves, and arrogance."
