President Donald Trump is belatedly realizing that his razor-thin majority in the United States House of Representatives can be lost this year after he impulsively nominated the always-ambitious Elise Stefanik (Who has constantly envisioned herself on the national stage) to be his ambassador to the United Nation

He has asked Stefanik to withdraw herself from what is considered easy sailing into the ambassadorship. :nana: He COULD unilaterally withdraw her nomination, but that would make Trump appear "weak" to his cult supporters, which simply will not happen.

The reason he needs Stefanik to retain her House seat is an oddity in American politics; this is one of the few congressional districts in the United States with THREE major political parties; Democrat, Republican and Conservative parties.

In normal times, the conservative and republican parties work together and garner 60% of the vote against the Democrat.

But these are no longer "normal times". Trump's gutting of the federal bureaucracy has upset many nominal Republicans in New York's 21st congressional district, plus the district, in the extreme northern part of New York State is heavily dependent upon CANADIAN electricity, and EVERYONE there is pissed off about suddenly having to pay an extra 10-25% per month for electricity.

Trump is savvy enough to recognize "dissension in the ranks".

The man running for the Conservative nomination describes himself as an 'anti-tariff, anti-Trump, REAL conservative'. The Republican candidate(s) are all pledging utter fealty to Donald Trump, and the Democrat will get 40% of the vote regardless of the other two.

This is a REAL problem, one that Project 2025 never envisioned. The Democrat could likely win the election with 40% of the vote if the conservative and republicans split somewhat evenly (30-30 or so). There is no "top two" runoff in New York state. This election could, and most likely will, be seen as an early referendum on DOGE, and can ONLY be avoided if the ambitious Stefanik opts to keep her House seat and give up her dream as a UN ambassador (with an eye of the VP slot in 2028).

We live in interesting times.

Who knew dismantling democracy would be so difficult?

President Donald Trump is belatedly realizing that his razor-thin majority in the United States House of Representat…Trump is savvy enough to recognize "dissension in the ranks".

It’s rare that you make a post I disagree with but… trump? Savvy??!!! NO, SIR!😡

This was something recognized as potentially problematic as soon as he started plucking Vance, Rubio, Stefanik, etc for positions - even despite their red district and republican governors.

I don't know. I think the only thing that motivates fat orange guy is whether someone kisses his ass enough. She must have done something that irked him.

His only purpose in putting her appointment on hold is the slim Republican margin in the House.

Huh? Lets unpack this a bit wrongway. You're correct it is because of his slim majority, but her seat is in a gold standard republican stronghold. Why should Trump fear losing the seat to a Democrat? Are we to infer more Republicans are waking up to the realisation that Trump might be ,for lack of better phrase, fucking the American pooch....

Yup. der Pumpkinhead Führer simply didn't realize how unpopular his decimation of government services, coupled with ruinous tariffs, would be with the MAGA faithful.
Trump's ratings are soaring, yours are the lowest in history.

ah yes, the old Vetteman "ratings=righteousness' trope.
All those years on "The Apprentice" getting trounced by HoneyBooBoo. :nana:

If der Pumpkinhead Führer wasn't concerned about his majority, why did he want Stefanik to withdraw?

We Know Why!
Rob, you've got ratings??? Cool...better than vette could ever achieve. Even when he thought ISIS was hunting his ass and he went to hide in butt fuck Idaho....

Now now, give Comrade Vettebigot at least some credit for his excellence in camouflage choices: In Idaho, he is virtually indistinguishable from any other random sack of potatoes. ;)

You answered your follow-up question, butt squeak. You need to "unpack" your meth pipe.

Yah, he's swallowed too much kool aid to be able to admit that Trump is scared....
I so wish Hakeem Jeffries had convinced Gov. Hochul to hold an immediate election to fill her seat. Look, I am 98% sure I dunno of anything I’m talking on concerning New York State rules but who cares, right? Dems need to start playing by republican rules, by which I mean - adhere to no rules at all.

A bit off topic, but I was reading this morning on yet another (the 4th!) unfortunate suicide death in a department of blue in the Houston area. 😟😢

Ugh. Hate to have to explain to RWs that supporting our men and women in blue means wishing them home safely each and every shift and the best of mental well being in addition to being critical of them when they do not do their job in service of the public interest - it’s all the same thing. RIP Officer Kohler. 😢

Remember, President Trump pulled Mike Waltz out of his seat in Congress to make him National Security Advisor. Then Waltz invited a reporter from The Atlantic to that (not so) secret confab on Signal.

The by-election to replace Waltz in Congress should be an easy one for the Republicans to win, considering the composition of the district, but this demonstration that Waltz isn't fit for his current job (along with many of his co-workers in the Trump Administration) could make things interesting.

Imagine if President Trump went ahead and sacrificed Elise Stefanik's seat too!

it looks as if the blame is being set up to be dumped on some junior delegated to get the invitations in a row... we know magats refuse to take personal responsibility so no way waltz is going to have the buck stop with him (not unless there's some lucrative other-deal trump offers him a sniff of to go quietly 'with honor' lol)

Funny how in the first Trump administration people were tossed out willy-nilly, but now nobody seems to be set to lose their jobs. Is it possible President Trump has finally got to the bottom of the barrel and there's literally nobody to replace even these clueless apparatchiks if they fall on their swords?

mtg, boebert and an assortment of ass-kissing soap-faced republican representatives would give their eye-teeth for the opportunity
