So, for all of its faults, for everything it's lacking or got wrong, what did Fifty Shades do right? It shone a light on section of sexual relationships that have made it possible for girls like me to realize how to find what was missing in their lives. It also paved the way for a lot of popular romantasy novels to take the steps they want in their writings while still being known works.

I relate to this post for sure! My experience wasn’t the same as yours but if I recall, it did make me curious about some things. And I was able to more openly talk about it with my partner because of the book as a cultural reference point even though he didn’t read it.
Sure it wasn’t anything literary genius and it has problematic elements but soooo many books out there wouldn’t hold up to this type of scrutiny that comes with mass popularity.

I enjoyed the books for what they were and I love that they created that moment of exploration for so many women.

As I said in the post that may have started this, I am not a spanker by nature. My Dom side manifests in a different way. But I have also found that, with the right person, because of their enjoyment, I can truly enjoy things that would normally be out of my wheelhouse. So I was able to spank one of my partners raw because her joy became my joy. I wasn't just putting up with it, I was actively enjoying it. Hmmm, I don’t have much experience with other implements, nor am I really drawn to the idea personally.
I don’t think a cat o nine tails counts as spanking, right? If it does,
I like a light use of that on a special occasion. I’m not super into pain, but I am a little… it’s a delicate balance, and I need to be properly turned on.
I got this metal one out of curiosity… I used it a little on myself for a photoshoot. It definitely has a sting. I think I more like the feeling just of it being dragged along the skin. Feels like chain mail!

Well, there is something about the hand that usually wins this contest. But sometimes my nerves fail me and I can't get my hands to cooperate, so I have a few options. There is no one-size-fits-all answer to me.

I love the sound and stripes a leather belt produces.
I like a riding crop a lot - it gives the ability to be more precise with location, reddens the skin nicely, and makes a lovely snapping sound.
My favorite though, is a wooden paddle, especially with holes in it. The proper placement can make a lovely sound, the holes make an aesthetically pleasing visual result, and it allows me to transfer more force over a wider area.
