Wow! Thanks.......reminds me of a whorehouse I went to in Frankfurt. Love flea markets. Love the old churches, bet they are empty like the rest of Europe. I can ride the rails OK, might get a 5 day Eurail pass.

Back in my younger days I may or may not have visited the house of ill repute you refer to. But back then Frankfurt had two blocks of them right outside the main train station.

A phone call today made me think. When I am 96, will I want major surgery? At this point in life, I can't see myself wanting that stress and risk but I wonder what I will think when it's my turn. Then I realized by social norm dictates, I had already devalued this person by even asking myself why they would consider such a thing. There is much to think about today.

But it gets you to thinking about your/our own lives and what we value. What will we want when we are at that age?

Today is enough for me to grapple with.

I mentioned before there are flying electric quad copters that can carry two people now. They are open cockpit like the Wright brothers but there and there are no parking lots for them yet.

Alternatively thinking "that didn't stop EVs" (charging stations more than parking lots) and "I wonder how fuel efficient they are if they need to hover all day until they return to their origination point?"

I don't see this as devaluing this person. As W said - it's more thinking about which mile you would choose to walk when it comes time to wear their shoes.

Sometimes our bodies answer for us (i.e. too frail) and we don't even need to be consulted really.

I think there's something in the air. My office had a similar discussion earlier today. Prompted by 2 unexpected and unrelated life events of 2 different coworkers. Lots of Deep Thoughts about Life Planning this week.
