The 50 Plus Cafe, Pub, All-Nite Greasy Spoon and Dive Bar

Love 50+ men
We are like good aged whiskey 😉
Here's the standard welcome for all café newcomers:
Welcome to the café.

We conduct ourselves a bit differently here than most of the rest of Lit.

Post #1 introduces the joint... and glancing back over the last 10-20 pages provides additional context.

To be clear:
1. No religion 2. No politics 3. No drama 4. This isn't a hook up thread. Take it to the DMs or go somewhere else.

Everyone is welcome but we are protective of the vibe

This applies to all who visit this thread.
If this feels like a good match, welcome...

If not then please keep looking on Lit -
There's so many threads to choose from. You're sure to find a few to your liking.

Welcome SG and MH. Current discussion is (mostly) ice cream - favorite brands and flavors. Hope we're a good fit for you... but if not, there's a billionty other threads on Lit. 🍨

Happy Saturday, everyone
aaaand, off we go

Thanks 😊

Children aka Little Petrie Dishes of Death
Sickest I've ever been so far? Top 3 were bugs shared by small children

See? Told ya
Hope she feels better soon!!! 🫂

Fellow Celt reporting in... sounds on-brand to me
(Good chance of Saxon, too... Teutonic if by way of the British Isles)

Helpful - even in dreamland
Impressive

Side trip to WI... MN sells 151 Proof, but not 190 Proof.
For that you have to visit WI or a few other states
Everclear Legal States

Sad News -
I was almost done with a big catch-up... and I lost it all
sometimes the Cyber Gods of Refresh smile upon you
and sometimes they do not ☹️
This was a good one, nonetheless! 💞

My mom liked those... I like pecans (plain). And lots of other nuts and seeds - plain or roasted, unsalted.

Milk chocolate is too sweet for me. Heck, "standard dark chocolate" (60% cacao) is too sweet for me.

I like a good dark chocolate nut cluster, but prefer to make my own with 82% - 90% cacao dark chocolate.
My sister makes her own candy. I should try it.

Check in w/ sis for some tips and see if you can borrow some of her tools, molds, etc. Try some out to see what you like. Can be expensive start-up if you don't have any of the equipment to start. That's assuming you're getting fancy and not just "heat, mix, drop, cool" like me.

Lili - lovely to see you
Means I may be up a tad late, but it's Saturday, so... 😄

And if we're lucky our loved ones from the other side stop in for a visit. I love those dreams the most... b/c I miss those folks the most. 🫂

Genius!! I need to get a couple of those!
I'm a known over-packer 🥹
First vacation this year? My checked bag was 2 pounds over the limit. I opened the suitcase to see what I could jettison for the trip. Lifted a pack of brownies up - and it was exactly 2 pounds lighter. Made 2 young ladies at the bag check station very happy.
And I still had 3 more packs of brownies for my friends at the destination.

Quiet in an argument is counterintuitive but can be very effective.

I use an epilator all the time... I have an esthetician for waxing, too. I often see him before a trip for a more thorough attention to detail. Plus, some spots are easier for him to get than for me.
Never heard of using a sander on the legs though... heels, toenails, not legs. Huh!
The sander is good for removing the last bit of fine hairs and any dead, dry skin cells. It helps your skin produce collagen!

I have to limit myself by using smaaalllllll bowls!
Ice cream is my weakness....
Blue Bell Buttercrunch (laced throughout, with crumbled up Butterfinger bar) is awesome.

I can do the small bowls... I often use a dinner plate for a honeybun, vanilla, and chocolate ice cream... covered with cherry pie filling. Lol.
If my metabolism ever changes, I'm screwed.

I can't always see it in the moment but I'm always willing to listen.

I'm not a volatile person. When I'm angry, I'm more of a cold stealth bitch. I've been told it's scary. I just think it's more civilized than screaming and throwing things in anger.

It also sometimes takes me a while to process my feelings. I've learned to own them and not place blame on my partner for them. While I'm processing, I tend to withdraw. When I'm ready, a productive conversation can take place.

We are quite philosophical this weekend, aren't we?
IMHO, there's a fine line, between trying to help "grow together" and trying to change the core of the one that a person fell in love with...

That's awesome!
You just put a smile on my face!
Not sure if your auntie did this, too... but from what I read, you continue to use every bit of the vanilla bean pod until it's entirely consumed.

Split and soak in vodka to make extract
Soak for @ 6 months
Then start to use & continue to "feed" the jars - more beans and vodka.
Every time you add a new bean, take an old one out. Dry it out, then put it in a small jar w/ sugar. It then infuses and makes vanilla sugar (great for coffee and baking).
When it's infused the sugar thoroughly, take the bean and grind into powder and use as vanilla powder for baking.

You can do all these things independent of each other or in a succession. But bottom line is to thoroughly and completely use every spec of the bean.

I 😍 that idea of zero waste. Plus - vanilla is darn tasty!!

I can't remember all of the details of what she did, but I thank you for the great info!
I'm bookmarking this and saving a screenshot as well!
