King Charles III invited Trump to UK for State Visit

With all due respect, Charles should keep his nose out of this. If the US joined the Commonwealth, I'd lobby to my death to have Canada leave it.
There can be no peace until Trump shuts the fuck up and apologises to Canada and its peoples, and we all know that's never going to happen.
Apologize?! šŸ˜‚. Keep holding yer breath hoser…

Hey hoser, you’re supposed to just suck the gas…not drink it!🤣

What makes you think it's gas in that jug? Experience?

I'm going to move this post to Rory's Deplorables have no sense of humour thread. It fits right in. *chuckles*

King Charles has to do what he is told - he didn't issue the invite personally and doubt very much he'd want to, but he has an obligation as head of state. His power goes no further to tutting and rolling his eyes. Don't take my word for it - read Wiki.

The US had a disagreement with the UK and Commonwealth a while ago and it's near impossible to see a reason why it would be invited to join. Besides, everyone is leaving the Commonwealth - it's a toothless club that has tea parties and plays a few sports events.

You can Google these things but I know making shit up is more fun.
Of course the king has to abide by the British government's directions, but the power of influence cannot be denied. Charles' status as king and/or head of state of 15 countries has the kind of dazzling appeal to someone like trump who wishes to be seen as the most important person in the world. In the USA, there are a lot of people who are mad about all things 'royal' despite the USA having declared itself independent of Britain. Does trump view King Charles as 'more bigly' than putin? It would certainly put a cat amongst some of his followers if he accepts the invitation, and disturb maybe just as many if he refuses.

I believe the invitation to join the Commonwealth (no doubt seen as a positive once trump is no longer a president) is as nuanced as I described earlier and there can be a positive outcome (as far as Democrats are concerned vis-a-vis a divide and conquer scenario) however it turns out. As for King Charles, in actuality the British government with Charles as its spokesperson, trump's response can be spun advantageously whichever way he goes.

On a related note:

There is a very good reason why no real American President would meet with Kim Jong Un, etc:

ā€œYou don’t reward dictators and orange wannabe dictators with state visits, etc.ā€.

A 'delicate situation' for King Charles: Royal soft power and diplomacy in the face of world turmoil

this made me laugh—from a piece about soft diplomacy and the 'signaling' of support for Canada by wearing Canadian medals of honour as Charles visited the HMS Prince of Wales:

"That was a visit to a Royal Navy vessel, so that was almost certainly not an accident," Craig Prescott, a constitutional expert and lecturer in law at Royal Holloway, University of London, said in an interview.

"That is, of course, a very clear sign of the King wanting to be seen [to be] supporting the U.K. military, but also supporting the Canadian military. And there have been discussions of Canadians playing an active role in Europe.

"So I think it ties in with all of that. But again, I think it was — in a way, it might be in a too-subtle way for those at the White House, but ... again, an assertion of Canadian nationhood."

Well, we can have peace under the next Democrat in the WH.

Prediction: His Majesty King Charles III will NOT revoke the invitation and Trump will be going to the United Kingdom for the State Visit.

It's common knowledge that Musk HATES Starmer and wants him GONE altogether.
I don't see the connection. How does Trump visiting the king help Musk get Starmer ousted?

You think? After the red meat MAGA's have tasted this, no way. The US will now be either an Authoritarian government, or you will sink into civil war. Either way I don't give a shit.

If we have a civil war, no way Canada gets to stay out of it.

No matter his party, the PM will find it necessary to take sides. Neutrality will not be an option.
No, we'd say something like, "were willing to work with which ever Government is formed". Taking sides is a recipe for disaster in another countries internal conflicts. But hell the US has been doing that for decades so I can see why you think we would.

Taking sides will be necessary to the government because Canadian voters will take sides -- they can hardly pretend to be indifferent as to which side wins an American civil war.

lol, right now, 90% of Canadians would be cheering it on. That coming from a person who has both citizenship in the family ( I just chose NOT to become dual, good choice in the end). Kinda like Great Britain stayed neutral in the first American civil war. (Note the use of the word first, yes I think there will now be a second).
