European Tourism to the US in Jeopardy

Well then...
The amerikanskis no longer need Europe. Then they don't. Hand over Rammstein Air Base and Thule Air Base swept clean by next Tuesday and then it'll be fine. No problem.
You're not all there anymore.
Dear Americans, I am reluctant to insult you because you are suffering more from the loony than we are, even if you probably haven't all realised it yet. It's a coup from the top.
Perhaps a little thought experiment: how long would it take for the loony to threaten Europe with war if an American were detained here for a fortnight or put on trial?
Wait a minute...
He already has?
No one is surprised.
But don't worry, prisons here aren't like yours. Prison here does not mean that you will be humiliated and lose your dignity. From what I've seen in your homes, it's more of an ascent.

You'll have to buy some of Trump's American imported butter. Swedish butter is not the right kind! ;):nana:
So far I had the impression that you had culture and sophistication, but I was probably wrong.
Everyone knows that popcorn needs a touch of fir honey.

Ah! A backhanded slap. ;) :coffee::giggle:

The issue with our American flavor of English is that we can't tell if 'you' is singular or plural. Your sentence doesn't offer enough context for me to figure that out. I'm leaning toward 'you' being plural, so is 'you' referring to Americans as a whole rather than a personal perspective on me?

Personally, I believe my culture is fine, but my sophistication could use some improvement.

Unfortunately, my country has sadly and noticeably lost its way—at least the half that voted for a loon has.

That's the opinion of the other half who didn't vote for a convicted criminal.

We also add regular bee honey, or fir honey as you call it. We mix in other ingredients for popcorn as well: caramel coating, various chili powders, cinnamon, and more. However, you can't assess sophistication based on what someone puts on popcorn; it's really about how it's consumed: one kernel at a time with a pinky finger raised, or by the fistful like a Swedish cow grazing in lush pastures. That's the true measure of sophistication. I find myself somewhere in the middle, taking small handfuls without raising my pinky.

It's working both ways though. American tourism to Europe is also expected to severely decline this year, as a growing number of Americans are choosing other regions. Reasons include new tourist taxes and paperwork, a rise of anti-tourist sentiment, aviation safety and security concerns.
While I do think this is quite extreme, to be fair, it was Europe that started the war on American tourists, so I guess this is sort of their karma.

Well, first of all, in not English, I'm German. English is s foreign language for me. About the "you" all I can say it includes everyone defiling perfectly good popcorn with butter. And about raising your pinky: as long as you keep your head out of the bowl....
Enough ridiculous insults, others are doing more than enough of that.
Fir honey is bee honey, but not from blossoms but from lice, living on for trees, peeing a very sweet liquid, which is licked from their asses by bees. Don't make such a face. It's delicious. Like a mix of honey and caramel, but with a bitter undertone. Really good.

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/mar/19/trump-musk-french-scientist-detained

A French scientist was denied entry to the US this month after immigration officers at an airport searched his phone and found messages in which he had expressed criticism of the Trump administration, said a French minister.

“I learned with concern that a French researcher who was traveling to a conference near Houston was denied entry to the United States before being expelled,” Philippe Baptiste, France’s minister of higher education and research, said in a statement on Monday to Agence France-Presse published by Le Monde.

“This measure was apparently taken by the American authorities because the researcher’s phone contained exchanges with colleagues and friends in which he expressed a personal opinion on the Trump administration’s research policy,” the minister added.

Immigration and the Thought Police are now searching people's phones for emails/social media that criticize the Great Supreme Leader. Orwell was 41 years early, but we got there in the end.

I see a fly in your ointment.

Since European tourism is dropping and traditional tourist sources like Canada, Mexico, and Asia are also in the toilet (due to Trump’s policies, tariffs, and inflammatory rhetoric), tourists' expected "new wave" is not materializing. Recent broadcast news reported several tourists being snatched up by ICE and held for weeks in jail and solitary confinement for craziness. That's all over the world news and has countries pissed at that as well.

What countries are left to fill the void? Russians or North Koreans?

In your supply and demand economics lesson, hotels and venues lowering prices wouldn’t necessarily lead to a quick recovery in demand. Instead, they might be stuck in a prolonged slump with fewer visitors and lower revenues. Without a fresh influx of tourists, price cuts would be a desperate move to minimize losses rather than a sign of market resilience. Economically, the businesses lose revenue and are/will be worse off than if Trump had kept his nose out of it.

If Americans don’t step in to replace missing foreign tourists, domestic tourism will not be enough to sustain the industry—especially in places that rely heavily on international visitors, like New York, Florida, or Las Vegas. With the economy the way it is for our citizens they are tightening their belts worried that tariffs will drive up food prices and other costs. Not likely they are going to jump on a 'good deal' to go on vacations if they were not already planned.

So, if Trump’s policies actively discourage tourism from multiple major sources, the logical consequence is a serious hit to the industry, not just a temporary adjustment in pricing.

That's how it really works. :(
Good argument. I am in finance but I read economics and listen on the side.
There is a certain amount of US tourism that cannot afford luxe vacations in places you mention (NYC, Vegas, etc). They will now be able to afford it thanks to lower rates. Hotels have to drop rates when vacant. Cannot survive any other way. So there will be at least part of the gap filled.
I stayed a super high end bigcity hotel for a conference and it was packed with Euros who were spending money like I was breathing air. The hotel will not get that kind of action from Americans, to be certain, but the rooms will fill, just at less than $375 that I was forced to spend for a small room and pay only breakfast.
One more point: Europeans have huge vacation time and big budgets. They often visit unfriendly places. I am not certain that Trump is enough to keep them away from Basel Miami, Vegas casinos or NYC gentleman's clubs.

Right, you hate the USA and want to turn it into a generic socialist shit hole JUST LIKE all the generic socialist shit holes.

They are all better places than the US and I love the US and want it to prosper. You've already made it clear you hate what we should be.

So you have no fucking clue what capitalism is.

Big government control over the economy is NOT capitalism....you're just flat out wrong.

A lack of big government control is what gets you mega corporations. WE've only narrowly avoided a complete domination because of government intervention.

That's socialism buddy. Read a history book sometime. :D (y)

That is not socialism by any stretch of the imagination. I've read history books and that's not accurate. Its actually an outright lie even at the extremes you want to take it to.

Quick economics lesson: If Euro tourism falls (it probably will not, but let's say it does), prices for hotels and other venues might fall and will quickly be snapped up by Americans and foreign tourists. That is how it works.

🙄

😳

"wallstreetguy" got schooled on how things are likely to ACTUALLY work out.

👍

Also:

We. Told. Them. So.

No, they aren't.

You've already made it clear you hate what we should be.

No I just don't agree with you that we should be some totalitarian communist shit hole.
A lack of big government control is what gets you mega corporations.

Literally the opposite. We have the biggest most controlling government in ALL OF HUMAN HISTORY, and we got mega corporations out of it.

WE've only narrowly avoided a complete domination because of government intervention.

Who is "we" and complete domination of what exactly?

The government is what enables the oligarchy we have now.

That is not socialism by any stretch of the imagination.

Government controlled economy is socialism by definition.

:giggle: I gathered American English was not your primary language from the syntax in your post. I don't mean any offense with this statement; I've spent a lot of time trying to learn a second language as an adult and not done too well at it. My second language is far poorer. You have a pretty good command of English.

As to fir honey, nope, after your explanation, I'll skip a taste of that on popcorn. I'll stick to American bees and flowers.

Ridiculous insults? You are on Lit's political forum. It lives and breathes insults here for the most part. ;):nana:

Wait a month and see how the press handles it. If it drops off the conversation topics, you might be onto something. If there's still a buzz, then I suspect the opposite–the industry was harmed by Trump's actions. Others will likely be affected too if the tariffs continue.

Yes it is. But more so.
No it's not because it's not Ukrainian people (or representative of) that own it.

It's a totally separate entity from the people of Ukraine.

What Trump is doing is more akin to getting collateral by taking the Ukrainians by their energy jugular....it's really not socialization of the Ukrainian energy industry by any stretch of the imagination.

You should try.
And I'm happy that I did not mention lice cheese.

This is what the UK is seeing. A British tourist crossing from US into Canada is imprisoned then deported for minor bureaucracy.
Expect a severe drop in UK tourism with immediate effect, followed by a Europe-wide slump.
Message to the entire world: Better pray the Democrats win back the Presidency and Congress in 2028 and keep it for 20+ years.

Won't really hurt Japan, that's why they aren't crying.
Canada is not crying, England is not crying, Germany is not crying, France is not crying ,Italy is not crying. As you mentioned Japan is not crying. The only country that seems to be crying is the US. So you can't even answer a simple question, which was:
How exactly is taking away your funding (whatever that is supposed to mean) and weapons going to hurt G-7 countries?
Nowhere in your answer above, or below do you supply any evidence of hurting G-7 countries. Just a bit of histrionics, which seems rather tame by your usuall standards. So I assume the new dose is working. Awesome!!
But the rest of them will hurt because they don't have any and they will have to take funding from their social programs to get them .....that's why they are SO FUCKING MAD we aren't financing/fighting in Ukraine and escalating to WW3, for them. That's why the idea of us leaving NATO makes them literally get on stage and CRY. Without us, there is no NATO. :D (y)
I've got news for you, if you leave NATO, that doesn't end NATO. It weakens NATO, and alienates the US even more than what Trump has done so far, and it will take away about 3% of your GDP that is earned by sales of military equipment and weapons to NATO's members.

Which is why Trump is demanding NATO spend more on defence. The vast majority of weapons NATO uses are US made. So it makes sense for Trump to push for this. However Trump's idiotic method of pushing for this, has now worked in reverse. What is funny to me, is you're cheer leading the circling down the drain....poor bobo. *chuckles*
