The 50 Plus Cafe, Pub, All-Nite Greasy Spoon and Dive Bar

Our UK folks should know!
As far as I know, which is not very far, not all currants are the same. Some currants (black, red and white) are part of the same family as the gooseberry. Currants as are popular in the UK, especially in fruit scones, are a dried grape, similar to raisins and sultanas.
In the UK, currants would refer to the dried grapes whereas blackcurrants (all one word) would refer to the gooseberry type. I think!!!

Wow, six pages to catch up on from last night. I'll get to it.

Woke up with a sore throat. Felt it coming on yesterday. Hot coffee felt good.

Slept in and Mrs. Mitt did morning chores bless her. She even baked muffins so I don't have to make breakfast for my mom this morning.

Getting in the shower so I can be germ free for mom today. We might have a visit today from home care to get us started with them. I hope so.

Awww! Mrs. M is a gem!🥰 Did you get your phone health care visit today? How was it?

People are strange.

Lady calls,

' so I'm scheduled tomorrow for a consult about a serious issue but I need to reschedule because my grandson is going to a birthday party at the trampoline park and I need to be there.". 😶. >blink< >blink<
Did you tell her to alert EMS so they could stand by at the trampoline park? 🙄🙄

There's a receptacle just inside the cafe door.
Goals are good.
Numbers help to quantify.
74 is vastly greater than 26.
Celebrate the 74 while putting the 26 on notice. You're coming for the 26 next.
You got this, girl!
Congratulations!!! Marvelous achievement so far on this journey.
I'm so proud of you... and happy for you!a ⭐ 🫂
I love how you put this, Likes! We're all cheerleaders for Miss K! 💞✨💘

I love talking about weight loss achievements and goals. It gets really juicy when we talk about sliding back on them and how we take responsibility for them and get right back up knowing there is no shame, only the human experience.

I lost 100 pounds last year and wanted to lose another 50 or so. I look really good in the 170 range wearing size 30's.

Then tragedy happened. The trucking industry was going through a flux and my miles were cut in half. We were struggling financially. That's when Mom was obviously going downhill enough to have us all worried.

So, I moved back "temporarily" to help out , set things straight, and ease our financial woes. Things were worse than expected when we got here.

One thing led to another and now I'm kinda stuck with no income waiting on the health care system that is fast as the speed of smell. We are rapidly running out of savings but Mom is in much better shape with her meds and doctor visits being fixed.

This whole time I've been eating my stress and gained back over 30 pounds. It's been eating at me too. This last week I've been practicing the 24 hour fasting as the diet choices are a nonstarter due to budgeting. That is seeming to work.

Coffee in the morning with nothing till dinner and I'm trying to cut back on portions. Hard to do while starving. I need more protein to stave off the hunger.

Holy Crap! Wall of text. Sorry folks.

But keep up the attempts, K. They will eventually out number the failures. And keep talking about it. Silence is a killer. All ears here.
Oh, gosh, M! I'm so sorry! If you don't mind, I'd like to make a few comments. But first, NOTHING I'm about to say is meant as a criticism.

Your mom must be on Social Security. Does this allow your family to buy food for the month? Are there food banks you can visit? Does your mom (or you) have SNAP benefits? I know the social safety nets are in chaos right now. Some states do better than others.

Now, as to fasting. If you're not providing your body with enough protein, it will cannibalize from your muscles. Try buying beans and brown rice in bulk if you can. Get the dried beans. Look for them in bulk bins or at the Dollar Store. Brown rice has a low glycerin index and, when mixed with beans, makes a complete protein. It will fill you up, provide protein and fiber, and stave off hunger. See if you can get vegetable boxes from local farms. Eating local improves your gut biome.

You can make stews with cheap cuts of protein. A large pot will feed you for days. Cooking a chuck roast low and slow in liquid makes it delicious! Save your bones to make stock. Cooking the bones long enough will cause the minerals and bone marrow to leach out. This is so beneficial for you.

Try to get out for walks daily. Stress raises your cortisol level which makes you hungry. It's a vicious cycle. Getting some exercise every day can break this cycle.

I'm not a nutritionist or a dietitian. I do know a thing or two about dieting, however. I wish there was something else I could do for you! 🫂🫂🫂
