Should the European Union simply have its own military arm?

There's been a lot of discontent expressed lately about NATO and the USA's role in it. It might be better, perhaps, if NATO were dissolved, and all its European assets transferred to the EU. Then there would be a European Armed Force -- it would be the same organization, just without the U.S. and Canada (and the UK). Would that be adequate to keep Europe safe from Russia?

Why the fuck would we leave? Or the UK for that matter. The us can just fuck off. Get the fuck out of the Bosnia,Belgium,Bulgaria, Germany, Italy,Japan,Kosovo,Lithuania, Poland,Romanian, and Turkey.

See how effective the us military is at projecting power around the world. Logistics are the real strength of an Army...and without those bases the us has fuck all.

Not enough 'profit potential' for transactional president Benedict Donald
I was referring to Canada not leaving NATO, instead becoming part of a European military defence org.

Trump will lose out on the NATO arms orders too, if he takes the us out.

Because each is a NATO member, but neither is an EU member.
So? There is no need to have a coast on the North Atlantic to be a member of NATO, so why would there be a need to have the country physically in Europe?

I cry yer pardon, sirrah.
I forgot your humble origin of birth.
Won't happen again.

The way things are going now, Canada might join the EU and withdraw from NATO -- and then contribute the same money and troops to the European Armed Forces as it did to NATO.

Just because Canada no longer wants to be in the same alliance as the U.S.
